I haven't spent much time in southern NM,
with the exception of a few of the lakes,
like Elephant Butte, Conchas and maybe
a few others. I have spent some time in
Las Cruces, which is in southern NM and
on the way to Mexico but i've never been
to Portales. It's too hot and dry in the south for me, i prefer the cool mountainous regions of NM, which are mainly up north.

I have a friend in the State Police that
was stationed in southern NM for a short
time when he first got out of the police
academy and he tells me that it was the toughest, because of the heat and most
boring duty he ever did while on the force. He says that all new State Police rookies have to do a stint in southern NM because no one wants to be there. Our State Police Officers wear dark black uniforms and I can only imagine how this must add to the heat effect. They aren't even allowed to wear shorts in the summer, like other police get to do on other forces.

Don't you ever get out of the car to take
pictures? That picture is kinda fuzzy
looking.

Santa Fe, The City Different, leastwise, that's what our city logo, saying or some such other stupid thing that they call this city is. I've allways known it as the sleepy little city that was built on Marijuana and Tequilla.

Roswell? Are you trying to suggest that i'm Goofy or something? LOL

Piin-I took many pics while driving-I blew this one up a little which may account for it being fuzzy, and I also used one of those sh*tty instamatic cameras which probably didnt help any. I also took another trip out west in Aug of 1971.I went thru the northern states and Canada.I also took another pic while driving as I was leaving Vancouver,British Columbia.I was leaving the city during the morning rush hour-it was a four lane highway with set of traffic lights. They had 3 lanes going in and only one going out.I imagine during the evening rush hour they probably had 3 lanes going out and only one lane going in,which is a great idea to relieve the commuter rush hour traffic.Im surprise the bigger cities in the U.S.havent done that.On another note, during my trip,I was passing thru a small town called St.Croix,Minnesosta.When I was entering the town there was a huge banner across the highway that read "CLASSICROCK..GO HOME" To this day I dont know what that was all about.
