You demo crats ask why I keep mentioning clinton? Well why not when he keeps making a target of himself.
----------

Have you ever noticed how some people pretend to honor others, while actually calling attention to their own "good deeds"?

Nobody is more proficient at this art form than former President Bill Clinton.

No act of heroism, courage or altruism by anyone else can be commemorated without a subtle effort by Clinton to place himself right in the middle of it.

He's like the subject of that Carly Simon song, "You're So Vain": "You're where you should be all the time. And when you're not, you're with some underworld spy or the wife of a close friend."

A classic example came last week during his remarks at Rosa Parks' funeral.

Clinton recalled how he, as a 9-year-old boy, inspired by the woman who refused to sit in the back of the bus, chose to ride in the back of his segregated bus with the black children.

"I remember, as if it were yesterday, that fateful day 50 years ago," he said.

I was a 9-year-old southern white boy who rode a segregated bus every single day of my life. I sat in the front. Black folk sat in the back. When Rosa showed us that black folks didn't have to sit in the back anymore, two of my friends and I, who strongly approved of what she had done, decided we didn't have to sit in the front anymore. It was just a tiny gesture by three ordinary kids. But that tiny gesture was repeated over and over again millions and millions of times in the hearts and minds of children, their parents, their grandparents, their great grandparents, proving that she did help to set us all free.

His remarks evoked warm applause.

But does anyone actually believe it? Should anyone actually believe it? Isn't it just one more example of Clinton's uncanny knack of calling attention to himself at the expense of another's achievement?

"OK, enough about you Rosa. Let's talk about me."

And these "vivid" recollections of Clinton's childhood have proven faulty in the past.

You might remember how he clearly remembered the bombing of black churches in Arkansas during his youth. Only problem? There is no historical record to suggest any black church was ever bombed in Arkansas.

Do I need to remind Americans that this man was impeached for lying under oath to a grand jury investigating his behavior in a sexual harassment case. The U.S. Senate declined to convict him. But he did lose his license to practice law as a result of the perjury.

The truth is a commodity with which Clinton seems to be unfamiliar.

Worse, in my opinion, is his shameless self-promotion – always placing himself in the middle of historical events, usurping credit for the achievements of others, retroactively clinging to the coattails of heroes of the past.

Jesse Jackson is said to have clumsily dipped his hands in the blood of Martin Luther King Jr. at his assassination site and smeared it on himself in an effort to share in the victimhood.

Last week, once again, Clinton showed how one accomplishes this artfully – without getting one's hands dirty.

Did Clinton make up the story?

Probably.

But even if this were the rare exception, when Bill Clinton told the truth, why should anyone believe him? Why does he continue to be invited to make such speeches? Why is it that so many Americans still flock to hear him bloviate about himself while appearing to be honoring others? Why, especially, do black Americans continue to have regard for this man who, according to those closest to him as late as his days as Arkansas governor, was said to hurl racist terms around like any other "good ole boy."

I don't believe 9-year-old Bill Clinton rode on the back of the bus.

I don't believe anything Bill Clinton says.

Have we forgotten? He's a congenital and convicted liar.

He marred the solemn occasion of Rosa Parks' funeral. He soiled her memory. He tarnished a proud moment in American history.

He's a lawyer. His lips moved. We understand. The Limperals will continue allowing their hopes to cloud the facts and the truth.

And Bush sure isn't making this argument any easier. That's a fact and truth.

You guys just cannot get over the fact that he was president for 8 years and is still popular. It just sticks in your craw like annoying little poppy seed. Here he is the antithesis of everything you believe and he is still loved. The thing is, you are the ones that keep bringing him up. You are the ones that keep him in the public eye. You are the ones that keep reminding people of him and no matter what you may wish to be true, you just are not going to change the minds of those that like the guy any more than we that think that Bush is a fool and a liar are going to convince you to feel any different.

What I don't understand is, why when your own candidate has such continually waning popularity, you keep bringing up his much better liked democratic predecessor.

Earlier this week, after the dems called the closed door session there was an interview with a republican senator that when ask how the whole thing was handled, in that most blatantly honest statement I have heard from a politician (he probably won't be re-elected), stated.. "We got played". He admitted that had the republicans just nodded and done nothing the whole thing would have barely been a blip on the screen but when Frist went in front of camera and gave his little tirade it took all the attention away from Alito and everything the WH was trying to do to move forward and put the spotlight right back on Libby and the war.

Maybe it's time for the rest of the republicans to learn from that lesson. Everytime you bring up Clinton it just reminds people of how well liked he was and how prosperous the economy was during his terms. Somehow, I doubt that is really you intention. Maybe it's time to learn when to shut up walk away from the mic.

Or not. Personally I don't actually mind, I just can't stand continually watching people make fools of themselves.

Yea, maybe we should stop our winning streak that took all power AWAY from the dem. party.

I don't think so.

Linda - What does bitching about Clinton have to do with Bush's election? If anything, the reason he won in the first place is because Gore tried too hard to distance himself from Clinton rather than utilizing his tremendous popularity. As for re-election, I scould have sworn you said that was because Kerry was not a defined candidate... are you saying now that it had something to do with Clinton?

What is it about Republicvans that keeps them so enarmored with the past? They can't get over Clinton, and despite the current dismal actions of and opinions of Bush they are living large on an election that happened a year ago. It's like Packer fans that scream that they are 4 time Superbowl Champions but ignore that their team is currently the worst in the league.

Leave it to the neocons to blame everything on former Democratic Presidents. Let me guess... Scooter's indictment was because JFK was killed. That was JFK's fault.

fenix - You're not going to stop anyone from saying anything they wish to say. Period!! That's the reality of the situation. You can either accept it, ignore it, or keep whining about it. Your choice....but nothings going to change....it's NORMAL political banter.

AS was done on these boards, over the years when Bush was first election. The dems were CONTINUALLY bring up the Reagan administration and the Costra arms issue. Absolutely NO different.

Imo, clinton was the MOST corrupt adminstration this Nation has EVER experienced. Yes, some votes still like clinton because they like the economy during his administration. Those idiots don't realize/won't acknowledge that clinton had NOTHING to do with the good economy. Most President's don't. The economy improved under his second term....when the republicans took control of our Congress. His first term economy plans FAILED.

Correct. He hasnt been in the public spotlight for ages, or more recently at Rosa Parks Funeral. The right is will be dragging him back from the dead screaming, I'm sure!

Now that sounds like some puffy people on this board!

Clinton: Hillary Would Be Better President

JERUSALEM

Former President Clinton said in an interview Friday that he believes his wife would do a better job than he did in the nation's highest office.

New York Sen. Hillary Clinton has not said whether she plans to run in Nonetheless, her husband told Israel's Channel Two television that her experience as first lady would help make her a strong president.

"In some ways she would be (better) because of what we did together," he said from New York. "First, she has the Senate experience I didn't have. Second, she would have had the eight years in the White House." "I think she wouldn't make as many mistakes because, you know, we're older and more mature, and she is far more experienced now in all the relevant ways than I was when I took office," he added. "So I think in a way she has the best of both worlds."

Bill Clinton was interviewed on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the assassination of Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin. He is expected in Israel later this week for the Rabin memorials.

Hillary Clinton, who is running for re-election to the Senate next year, has refused to rule out a run for the next presidency, saying she is concentrating on her current office. Polls indicate that if she runs for president, she would be the favorite for the Democratic nomination.

Yup, like when bushy ASKED Clinton and Daddy Warbucks to head the Tsunami relief effort.

Ya, like when he's asked to speak all over the country.

Yup, like when he was asked to speak at Rosa park's memorial.

Yup, Senator Clinton is a senator.

Then let's just add the fact that he is very well liked

What is it about Republicvans that keeps them so enarmored with the past?

It would appear as if they can not bring up any successes of the either of Bush administrations so they have to resort to bashing Clinton. They are still living in the 90's.

Deep down they know Clinton was a lot better of a president than Bush will ever be.
