Arvada, CO (AHN) - Arvada City Hall and a post office of the Denver suburb were evacutated today and a bomb squad called after a car carrying at least one propane tank was parked near the buildings and the driver ran away say Denver officials.
City spokeswoman Maria VanderKolk told the Associated Press the driver, left the car before 7 a.m. near an entrance leading to police headquarters and fled carrying a duffel bag.
The owner contacted police after seeing television coverage of the scene, where two bomb squad robots and someone in a hazardous materials suit had been deployed. He said he merely left his car after he got tired of waiting for his girlfriend, who was in police offices in City Hall, says Police Spokesman Susan Medina.
The propane and acetylene tanks found in the car were related to the man's construction work, she said.
Only a handful of people were in City Hall. Postmaster Vince Fresquez said 70 workers were evacuated from the post office.
"This seems to be a rather large misunderstanding," says Medina. She said the man lives in Arvada but did not release his name.

It is better he called the police and explained the situation before having his house surrounded by the SWAT team after they traced his plates. YIKES!!
