Truth be told, this doesn't mean much to me as my opinion is that politicians on both sides of the aisle are, for the most part, schitbags, but this quote made me laugh:
And he said he wants his organization to be part of that structure. Just as importantly, he said, he didn't want people to immediately brand -- or dismiss -- NAACP concerns as synonymous with those of liberal Democrats. "I want this branch to be respected," he said.

Amen..brother.
I can understand why they would want to do this though. The democrats have taken their vote for granted for too long. And they (liberals) just want to keep feeding them the line they have no intellect for themselves and as a collective people must be govt subsidized, victimized and "helped". I hope they know the waves in these waters will be a whole other set of compromises for them though. (Sad really, politics has all come to just that, isnt it? But I suppose it is what benefits ones own interest more where you will see people throw their hats to.)

Not sure if I believe him or not. Easy to say anything....like they don't wish to be labeled the way they always have been......but they were quite upset that this President has refused to meet with them BECAUSE of what they've said about him. Maybe he's doing it because they're loosing membership????
But dbl, I totally agree with you in that I too haven't seen the democratic party doing much of anything for their race since the Civil Rights era and have long wondered just HOW they see support coming from their side.

Linda, I assume from your posting, you believe Bush is sincere, but i think all politicians are pretty self-serving. Even if they didnt start out that way, they wind up that way

I know we disagree on this issue, dbl. But my honest opinion is that this President has been the MOST honest President we've had in generations. And I mean in his heart-felt belief that he IS doing/has done what's in this Nation's best interest. I have never felt that way about any President that I have voted for from any of the three parties [third being Independent].
Is playing the political game always a factor...yes, for all politicans.....but when the important issues need to be dealt with....he's tops in my book.

That pretty much says it all, doesn't it everyone? Even many Republicans here and across America are seeing the realities of this Administration's corruption and cronyisms. Real Republicans and Libertarians know that the Bush Administration isn't representing their true ideology of Conservatism, Accountability, Ethics, and Morals that they talk about. The trees continue to shake, and as the leaves fall, most of America is seeing the fascist tactics and schemes of the Bush Administration.
