For the past couple days we have had a story of a 6 year old little girl that disappeared right down the road. The story went that she got in an arguement with her step mother over a cookie, left the house and didn't come home. Although it's been in the 60s and 70 here for the past week , that night a cold front hit and it got down to 19 degrees overnight. The next day the story got even wierder when it came out that the father was not really cooperating with police and would not even say what state the mother lived in. Another day passes (and night with temps in the low teens) and we find out that he wouldn't say where the mother was because he had never told her where he was. Still frigid cold, still nothing from the little girl. You just knew this was not good.
About 30 minutes ago we found out just how not good. Seems that not only is this little girl probably no longer with us, but she may have been dead for a year or more. No evidence, nothing to charge the parents on yet but at least they were able to get the other kids (7 of them) out of the house.

I had read about this case, but didn't see the follow up. This is a bizarre story all the way around. How can a child disappear for more than a year and no one miss her?

Apparently she was never enrolled in a school here and they have no family in the area. The grandparents said they spoke with her last Christmas but not since. I guess with 7 kids running around the neighbors might not notice that one was missing. I think the family was pretty private since we really didn't see any interviews with neighbors saying anything about her. I'm sure there will be more info tomorrow - the new reveleation was just announced tonight. The police got a call from someone assoctiated with the family (differing reports as to friend or family member) late this afternoon.
I'd love to know what they gave the dogs for her scent. They tracked it down to a creek but then lost it the first night. Never really made a lot of sense to me, that creek is a healthy walk for a little girl to make when it is that cold outside and there is nothing warm at the end of the journey. I kept thinking, a little girl mad a mom is going to "run away" to a friends house, not completely out of the neighborhood with no real destination.

Bunni - they just interviewed a neighbor who said that until they saw the kids being taken by social services, they had no idea there were even 7 kids in the house, much less the original 8. Said they never played outside and would only see kids in the car when they pulled up but they always got in and out of the car from inside the closed garage. Thought they were a bit strange but were never suspicious.

Nobody knows their neighbors any more....my "neighborhood" is pretty big, it's a mile to the nearest house, but when I was growing up here, everyone knew everyone else's kids, and the kids new they'd look out for them if need be...I don't think it's like that anymore. Too bad.
