The biggest shopping day, day after Thanksiving. I didn't go, my 2 daughters braved it at 4:30 am.
They were lucky, and they did get what they wanted, without shoving and violence.

I went yesterday. Man, what is wrong with people??? I didn't go at the crack of dawn either. Went to one large dept store, and people were throwing clothes on the floor, toys on the floor, everything! It was such a mess. I know that when I look at things, I put them back. but people got crazy!

I ended up putting everything back on the racks, and leaving, because the lines were out the front door to pay the cashier!
Going to travel farther to go to the outlet mall.

Anyway, was watching the news on Friday night, and dayum! Fights broke out for people going into Walmart at 5AM! One Walmart, emplyees were throwing the ($300) laptops out to crowd!

I know people want to get their Christmas shopping done, and get good prices (who wouldn't) but fighting in line? Total insanity.

besides the outlet mall, I'm doing some online, and the 'big' presents are going to be prepaid Visas! This way they can get what they really want, in a store, or online themselves.

Dare I say, I will never step into a Walmart. They are crazy on any given day, not just the Holiday season

Happy Shopping!

I went to Walmart (ew!, ick!) on Saturday afternoon, and they weren't crowded at all. Granted, they didn't have what I went for, but the crowds weren't bad

replay, I think it was the very early morning shoppers, who probably stayed the night in line outside.

But I have to say, I don't go to Walmart, a couple reasons, there is not one really close, and the one I have been to, is so crowded, its not worth it.

I think it just wasn't Walmart that people went insane Target, Kmart and the rest.

I do think people are going to shop online more this year

Oh, and yeah. They advertise the extremly great deals, and they don't have them when you go there, like you said. One daughter was able to get the color printer for $16.

Friends stayed in line early early am for Circuit City and got the 42" plasma tv for $799, now that is a great deal!

I wouldn't let the wife go. She is the main bread-winner at the moment and we cannot risk her being injured at the hands of ruffians. Yeah, I'm like that. I was selective about the rides the children could ride at the carnival, too.

I feel retail is going in the wrong direction with events that exclude the elderly, the infirm, the aged, and people of small stature. I carefully watch the retailers that participate in such events, not wanting to pay higher costs for my items to make up for the crap they 'throw out' at a loss.

As I tell the children, a sales price does not exist if the advertiser does not have the item in stock when I desire to purchase said item at alleged price. Using this as a guideline many retailers fall right off the scope for us, quite a time saver.

And the convoluted math you have to follow to figure out the actual cost of a computer nowadays! It's criminal! Don't forget to add back in the amount deducted for the AOL 'poison-pill' 'instant rebate'. Such shenanigans.

And when did 'free' start to mean 'hold still while we lube you up for a good ****ing'? Who let the slime-balls in charge of bank fees move into retailing? I mean, has anybody here, except Fluffy, ever successfully had a 'free' checking account?

Rant. Rave. OK, time for a nap, now.

parklane, that is so right on! That was one of the biggest complaints of shoppers, going to say, Walmart, and finding out they only carried 16 of the item! What kind of great deal is that. I know why they do it, to get them 'herded' into the store to buy other things, at regular prices. It may be good advertising for the store, but it is false advertising.

I don't like to see people get crushed in the crowd, and I told my daughters they were nuts going, but they went anyway (they are 23 and 24, live away from home, can't tell them what to do or not anymore) but they only found the one thing, the $16 printer (these days, its probably worth that or less! )

Hey Pi LOL! Kinda reminds me of what my brother put in his will, and this is true! He put to my 2 older sisters (not me ) I leave: All my love. LOL! Boy that'll be a shock if they are around to hear that!

It is now time to put lights and stuff on the house. But I am NOT turning them on until Dec 1 or later! (got ridiculus when people put them up and turned them on BEFORE HALLOWEEN!!)

Happy Decorating!!

Our K-Mart looked like they needed Funeral services and really our Wal-Mart wasn't any busier than usual. I guess the plants closing at Christmas here had some impact on buying. Salvation Army said they have had more families coming in for help than ever before.

I do board games more than videogaming anymore, so I'm no expert. But I used to sell videogames, so I pay attention.

As far as I know the XBox 360's are $399.99, at both retail and wholesale. There are several other models coming down the road, but the $399 version is the only option available right now.

I heard that Microsoft itself pays about $540 for the parts to build one. They make their money on the games. From the huge rate of defective systems I keep reading about on the net, somebody's gonna take an even bigger hit when it's all said and done.

Quite literally, NO ONE is making money on the sale of the XBox systems. But they make great loss leaders for the stores.

Sony supposedly breaks about even on their systems, and I hear Nintendo actually makes a profit on the sales of systems. but then their systems are much less expansive to make.

No insanity for me. I stayed home and did the majority of my shopping online. I only had one store to visit.

I do the same thing. Almost everything I buy comes from Amazon.com. I did venture into a mall yesterday and it was surprisingly empty. When all is said and done, I don't think the retailers are going to be overly happy this year.

Me too! It's bought on-line or not at all..although I did have to go to the store for wrapping paper and ribbon and such..
And most of the on-line shops have gift certificates.. how easy is that!

Do you have snow up north yet Cheryl?
It was 84 here yesterday and in the high 70's today, but the cold is moving on down tonight.

My wife braved the Walmart sell to get a Laptop. Went at #am lined up inside store in Electronics and was # 20 in line to recieve one of 25 available Laptops. Everyone was nice and orderly. It was the people that arrived right at 5 AM that were rude and obnoxious. And to top it off it was a Walmart Employee who was not yet working that was the rudest and this was to a lady in a disable electric cart. SOOOO sad.
The wifey was home by 526 AM saying she would not look anywhere else at the store with all the rude hateful people being like animals....
But she is happy to have gotten a laptop. Oh and a Flash drive thingy.

Maggie

It was in the low 70's today. By Friday, we expect it to be 27!! This weather is crazy. Warm, cold, warm, cold. We had quite a lot of snow and ice on Thanksgiving, but by Saturday it was all gone. Well, they predicted a Polar Coaster this winter. I think we've got it.

I don't mind the snow, it's the cold I hate. The Jeep does just fine in the snow unlike the last car I had. It was economical on gas, but I found myself stuck or sliding off the road too many times.
