Maggie, are you going to be ok this Christmas with what all you've been through? Maybe it's too fresh for you to talk about, but do you think you could get another pet, or is it too soon? I've been bad and started collecting dolls again, so there's no room for any decorations or a tree. I don't know how these 2 guys put up with it all. Maybe they're gay and I just haven't caught on yet.

{{Maggie}}. Many of us have had to do the same thing with our pets (I call them family). It's the saddest thing ever. Before I put down my beloved "Guy", we layed on the bed for 2 days and stared at each other while I cried. He just turned 20 a few days before he died. I miss him so much. My heart goes out to you. If there's anything I can do to help, don't hesitate to ask, Maggie.

Classic
As I understand it, the date is anywhere between June and November. You'd be hard pressed to find shepherds tending their sheep in December in Bethlehem. It's typically very cold, and wet. The 25th of December was an important Pagan holiday, "the Mithraic feast Dies Natalis Solis Invicti (the Birth of the Unconquered Sun) (36). Replacing the pagan feast with Christmas was likely a ploy to make Christianity, the newly official religion of the empire, more palatable to Roman legionnaires, many of whom had been devotees of Mithraism (37)."
We don't decorate as much as we used to. I went out and bought a live tree. It's a small one that's meant to stay in the house year-round. After Christmas I'll probably give it to my daughter. Plants and I don't do well indoors. Besides, the new dog has taken too much of an interest in it!!

Cheryl-I heard this of all places, the Hayden Planetarium in New York City about 10 years ago.We went to a Christmas show-they stated the Sheppard's were probably following the north star.Taking into consideration the earths axis and rotation around the sun,the most logical month would be June. There were a couple of other reasons, but I don't remember them. Also,it doesn't seem logical that they would have a baby out in the freezing cold in a manger.
We haven't had a "live" tree in over 20 years.
We like artificial ones,no danger of fire, you don't have to water them, and I don't have to go out looking for a tree every year-a lot cheaper in the long run.We have a white one, which I like a lot better then the green ones. When you put colored lights on a white tree,it looks so pretty

I got a big artificial tree with the 800 lights 2 years ago. I love real Christmas trees, but they are a fire hazard and a mess.
I'm doing the outside lights with my brother this weekend. Heck I think we'll be the last ones to have Christmas lights in this neighborhood, everyone else had them up before and right after Thanksgiving
About Jesus, I don't think it matters when he was born, just that he was. So someone picked Dec 25, most likely because its winter, and what better time to have a celebration.

No, I'm not Libra. I do think she was a very nice poster here
About December 25, I found this for ya
There was some dispute about the proper date of the birth of Christ and not everyone agrees even to this day. It was not until A.D. 350, that December 25 was declared the official date for celebrating Christmas by Pope Julius I. When the fathers of the church decided to settle upon a date to celebrate the event, they wisely chose the day of the winter solstice, since it coincided with some rival religions' celebrations and the rebirth of the sun (see Year of the Sun Calendar), symbolized by bon-fires and yule logs. December 25 was a festival long before the conversion of the Germanic peoples to Christianity, it seemed fitting that the time of their winter festival would also be the time to celebrate the birth of Christ. The darkness that had frightened and threatened to defeat the ancient pagans, was forever defeated by the coming of Christ.
So it was a person, and that person was the Pope at that time. The date for which we celebrate Christmas and Christ
yeah, its got some lights on it for sure Linda!
Then we do the entire roof line the whole deck, and those net lights for every tall bush in front..... thats going to be the most work!

Yep...and I don't expect anyone to be changing the date because non-believers don't like the date chosen.

I bet it will look absolutely beautiful, NTS when it's all done up. We used to go all out like that too. Now my sons and their families carry on our traditions and I enjoy them that way.
You and I are going to have such great fun this Christmas with your new Granddaughter and my two little ones. Just makes Christmas for me when little ones are around to watch their excitement and joy at all the lights, trees, decorations and Santa's gifts under the tree.

Well, NTS, ya learned something! But I already knew that hence my post asking if you were Libra.
I knew it was an artificial celebration and date based on pagan beliefs used by the christians to impose their celebration on people.

Linda, Yeah! this will be the babys first Christmas, and I do envision the tree or ornaments falling! Gotta watch this kid every second, she has been walking for a month. I turned away for about 30 seconds (that is a long time for a baby!) and she was partway UP our stairs! Scared me! We have to get those gates!
