No offense to any bug eaters here, but do you ever wonder about weird stuff, like how many unintentional bugs you've eaten in your lifetime?

I believe the FDA has regulations on the allowable amounts of bug parts in foodstuffs. I remember reading it somewhere and they allowed quite a bit of bug parts in certain foodstuffs. So the answer is that we've all probably eaten quite alot of bugs so far. Common baking flour has bug eggs in it and if you leave it in your cupboard for long enough you will see the bugs crawling around in it.

That's right Pi, I have seen that disclosure, many years ago while waiting to unload at a grain elevator ! In addition, it mentioned allowable amounts of rodent feces.

Good to see you, Hillbilly!
I heard about that "allowable bug parts" thing too... and it's not just bug parts that are allowed.

In the FDA report that i saw and i wish i could find it again because it was some interesting reading, it said that something like 15 grasshopper legs were allowed in every box of cereal and 2 or 3 or something like that of cockroach heads were allowed in canned food. That's how they broke it down in the report, by bug body parts.

Bug parts i can handle because it's all cooked, most of the time, but the other allowable stuff irks me, like the allowable fecal matter and livestock snot allowed in foodstuffs.

Boy, talk about fecal matter allowed in foodstuffs. There's a kind of gourmet coffee called Kopi Luwak that's produced from coffee beans that pass through an Indonesian monkey's digestive system intact. It's reputed to be the most expensive coffee in the world. Heck, this kind of coffee is all fecal matter.
