Don't laugh at us
Until America starts to put the squeeze on Canada so that she sees how economically and militarily dependent she is on the U.S., the anti-America sentiment will continue to prevail. It will also help when the Canadian government stops funding these sentiments through government-subsidized TV stations.
We laugh at Americans, but we can become criminals by having a private hospital.
We laugh at Americans, but we can't have an exclusively religious TV or radio station – except through liberal Buffalo.
We laugh at Americans, but we have to wait six hours for emergency care.
We laugh at Americans, but our "conservative" news can only come from CNN and CBS.
We laugh at Americans, but 30 percent of students in Ontario don't graduate from high schools.
We laugh at Americans as we are taxed to the ground.
We laugh at Americans, but all our senators are appointed by the prime minister.
We laugh at Americans, but our $2 million gun registry is now approaching $2 billion.
We laugh at Americans and take our convicted murderers to watch whales, go skiing and go to the shopping malls.
We laugh at Americans, and our doctors are recommending that we give free booze to homeless people to keep them from crime.
We laugh at Americans and don't know that marriage can only be between a man and a woman.
Free needles, anyone?
Don't laugh at us. We are a sorry bunch.

America eyes air strikes on Canada.
One official noted, "They just don't get it. We need to bring freedom to the oppressed people of Nunavut."
Another source states, "It is unfortunate, but Canadians are starting to demand their freedoms in astounding ways. We've heard reports of them actually using the internet to find out how the rest of the world lives, and secretly sharing it with others. A firestorm is rising, and we need to facilitate that firestorm."
Bush has said privately, "We wish to respect, ummm, the, I just think the people of Canadia, should have the same rights as Americans, and that...It's a known fact in some circles, you see Vancouver is beautiful, and the people of Canadia deserve the same...We owe it to our friends of the north to deliver freedom to them since we have extra freedoms. The PLC (People for the Liberation of Canada) have told us some of the horror stories of, well...you know, not alot goes on there that goes on here."
Although the US is spread thinly militarily, some have suggested "Freedom Droppings", to blanket Saskatchewan, and that we send educators and missionaries from some of our great American cities like Detroit to help bring Canada into the 19th century.

Canada does have Senators. 105 I believe in the upper house. There is (or was) even a hockey team called the Ottawa Senators.

According to actual statistics, Australia is #43 in murders and U.K. is #46. The US is #24. Colombia is #1 - not known for strict gun control. Neither is South Africa at #2. Seems you have things a bit backwards.
In fact if you factor in only murders with firearms, The US rises to #8, while Australia is #27 and U.K. is #32.
If the thesis is that strict gun control increases crime rates, show some evidence. Unless of course you mean gun control increases pickpocketing, shoplifting or something. That isn't the type of crime you mean, is it?

As I've said here before....imo, neither KD nor kiara speaks for the entire Canadian country.
Here's another example....from last year...but it made a lasting impression on me. Think much has changed up there now? I don't.

Can West News Services, owners of several Canadian newspapers including the National Post as well as the Global Television Network commissioned a series of polls to determine how young people feel about the issues that were facing the country's voters. Dubbed "Youth Vote 2004", the polls, sponsored by the Dominion Institute and Navigator Ltd. were taken with a view to getting more young people involved in the political process.
In one telephone poll of teens between the ages of 14 and 18, over 40 per cent of the respondents described the United States as being "evil". That number rose to 64 per cent for French Canadian youth.
This being Canada, the amount of anti-Americanism that was found is not surprising. What is significant is the high number of teens who used the word "evil" to describe our southern neighbour. As Misty Harris pointed out in her column in the Saskatoon Star Phoenix, evil is usually associated with serial killers and "kids who tear the legs off baby spiders." These teens appear to equate George W. Bush and Americans with Osama bin Laden and Hitler, although it is unknown if the teens polled would describe the latter two as being evil. Whether someone who orders planes to be flown into heavily populated buildings would fit that description would make a good subject for a future poll.
The Liberal government came into power in 1993 gushing anti-Americanism. Former Prime Minister Jean Chrétien's communications director, Francoise Ducros, made headlines when she referred to President Bush as a moron.
Liberal MP Carolyn Parrish was picked up on a boom microphone saying, "Damn Americans — I hate those bastards". Not only did Parrish not apologize for her remarks, but she later appeared on a television show hosted by alleged comedian Mike Bullard and laughed about the incident. Parrish played to the anti-Americanism of the youthful studio audience by saying that she couldn't guarantee that she wouldn't do it again.
Not only did then Prime Minister Jean Chrétien not take any action against his staff or caucus members, he himself engaged in America-bashing. The depth of his anti-Americanism surfaced shortly after the 9/11 attacks when he blamed the arrogance and greed of the West (read the United States) for those attacks.

Told everyone several times....I've had Canadian friends and my husband worked for Canadians, with Canadians and some worked for him.
I never had a probem with any of them. They liked living here in America....some still do.

On the gun issue....we've talked about this before here....over and over and over and over.... and I think WA DC was used as an example of where guns were made illegal to own...and their crime rate increase.

In one of our 'gun' discussions someone, obviously with a GREAT sense of humor posted something close to this:
"Well, I'll just KEEP my gun and when someone breaks into your house you can hit them over the head with the phone [while calling 9-11 and waiting for them to arrive]."
I always thought that was the BEST defense of being allowed to keep our own guns. NO restrictions.

Linda & Nerfballwillie, I've never heard them being called "senators" before - seriously. Everyone always refers to them as "Members of Parliament".
Linda, notice in your post how these teens were talking about the US government, not the people. Many here think attacking Iraq is just as bad as Iraq attacking the US. I don't think they're out of line to think that way.
and dont forget the 'oakie' instead of ok.
