al-Qaida Leader Not at Site of Airstrike

By RIAZ KHAN

DAMADOLA, Pakistan (AP) — Al-Qaida's second-in-command was the target of a U.S. airstrike near the Afghan border but he was not at the site of the attack, two senior Pakistani officials said Saturday. At least 17 people were killed.

Citing unnamed American intelligence officials, U.S. networks reported that a CIA-operated Predator drone aircraft carried out the missile strike in the Bajur tribal region of northwestern Pakistan.

The senior Pakistani officials told The Associated Press on Saturday that the CIA had acted on incorrect information, and Ayman al-Zawahri was not in the northwestern village of Damadola when it came under attack. Al-Zawahri is ranked No. 2 in the al-Qaida terror network, second only to Osama bin Laden.

"Their information was wrong, and our investigations conclude that they acted on a false information," said a senior intelligence official who has direct knowledge of the investigations launched by Pakistan to look into the attacks. His account was confirmed by a senior government official, who said al-Zawahri "was not there."

Pakistan's government was expected to formally issue its reaction later Saturday.

An AP reporter who visited the scene in Damadola village about 12 hours later saw three destroyed houses, hundreds of yards apart. Villagers recounted hearing aircraft overhead moments before the attack. By their count at least 30 people died, including women and children.

WE GOT HIM,OOPS NO WE DIDN'T. JUST MORE GOVERNMENT BULL ROAR!!!!!!!!!!

So what your trying to infer is, your glad we didn't get him?

I’d have to say that’s a very anti-American sentiment.

Would anyone like to second that?

Colin - I rarely understand the point behind Peepas posts but even I know that his post is not celebrating failure.

Why is it so hard to understand that disagreeing with the current government does not make a person "anti-american'? I'm sure there have been at least one president whose actions you disagreed with during his term. Were you "anti-american" during that time?

A) We make pinpoint-accuracy airstrikes within Pakistan, not our greatest ally.
B) We're trying to intimidate Iran over the nuvlcear plant/nuclear power situation.

Unrelated? I don't think so.

Whether or not Al-Zawahri was there, a point has been made.

Fenix03,
My 1st point is this Government doesn't know its Azz from a hole in the ground about finding Al-Zawahri or Osama bin Laden.

My 2nd point is, if its true we killed a bunch of innocent people AGAIN on MORE BAD C.I.A. INTELLIGENCE. When are the CON-servative war supporters going to understand that killing innocent people brings ON MORE TERRORIST.

My 3rd point is we don't know if Al-Zawahri is dead or not. But for sure we do know another American Marine was killed in Iraq yesterday.

My 4th point is, hey Bush either win this freaking Iraq war or get the hell out. WE HAVE ALL HEARD ENOUGH BLAH,BLAH,BLAH FROM YOU ABOUT YOUR WAR. JUST WIN OR GET OUT!!!!

OK - I admit it - I am exhausted frustrated and somewhat pissed. This move is testing every ounce of patience and self control I have. We were supposed to leave in the morning, arrive on Tuesday night and the truck arrive on Friday but now the house will not be ready until next Monday (if it's done then - apparently they flooded the kitchen today) so now that we cajoled the drivers into holding the truck until then I have 5 days doing not a goddamn thing and staying in the house of people I have never met (and who have no internet access to allow me to work during that time) and that much less time to get everything unpacked before I return. Plus we spent all day with the movers and they are still not done with the house - much less started on the storage unit so I have another joyous and funfilled day ahead for me tomorrow.

With any hope, if I wrongfully mistook Peepas words, he will now understood my pissy b*tch mindset and will forgive

Is anyone worried about the repercussions by the terrorists if Al-Zawahri or Bin Laden are killed? Wouldn't that put the soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan in greater danger?

I don't think so Krafty - I don't think they are fighting for those men, they are fighting for a principle (however twisted it may be). If anything, Zarqawi would probably be quite thrilled since he's had his hand slapped more than a couple times by the higher ups for kidnapping women, killing civilians in Iraq and that hotel bombings in Jordan. There would probably be a quick blip upsurge in attacks but the resulting upheaval could provide a big opening if intelligence agencies have their sh*t together enough to pick up on increased communications in the reorganization effort.

This was not the first time we've been told they got Al-Queda's second in command. IIRC, they have claimed that at leat three times before. I wish they'd get the facts before they put out stories like that.

If you have a noteboo PC, can't you locate a wi-fi cafe or access point?

Here's a site with wi-fi locations per state, (scroll to middle of page).

Bear - yes, you are right. It's my mother that is moving. My step is already down south of you kicking the builder in the *ss to get the house that was supposed to be finished in mid November done since the new owners of the house here take possession Monday. As annoying as things are on this end, I'm glad I'm not down there. My step is a home inspector/building consultant by trade so he's finding every little fault (like putting brass hinges on doors to bathrooms with brushed nickle hardware, the two sinks that showed up for the art studio that were supposed to be a double wash sink, the kitchen that was flooded today when the fence builders turned the water back on to the house before talking to the plumbers that were finishing trim)

She's heading down to the southernish coast of Texas, a little north of Corpus. I seriously doubt there is wi-fi in the area but if you post the actual link rather than just teasing the existance of one I can look because yes, the wi-fi enabled laptop is coming along for the ride.

Fenix03,
I work hard for the Democrats everyday and don't ride the fence about being a Democrat. I am proud to be a Democrat.

I believe the Democrats are the best party for the American people I best relate to.

If you want to turn like a snake and (bust my butt) for listing 4 points about my post. Just go ahead.

After all you are the one that said you don't understand my posts or points. I was trying to help you understand my post better.
