I am usually a big fan on the olypics but these are just notgrabbing me the way they usually do. I've taken to recording the overnight rebroadcasts and fast forwarding thru the boring parts the next day. Seems there is a lot more boring than good.

I'm watching them, but like you the're not grabbing me all that much either.
A real downer was Michelle Kwan dropping out.

But, the speed skating on Tuesday should be exciting with both Hendricks & Davis skating for USA. It's obvious they do not like each other one bit. Each have a gold & both going for another.
Davis has an attitude problem so I'm for Hendricks. Watch for Apollo Ohno, speed skater, I think he's skating next Saturday.

What really gets me is that I expected to watch all day Saturday & Sunday & they didn't come on until 7:00 PM.
They had Daytona on today instead. Yawn!!!

McJ - Are you watching Olympic Ice on USA? Comes on at 4pm and is consistantly the most interesting and by far amusing part of the olympics. Today the had "Wier Eye for the Skater guy aka - lets trash all of the ridiculous outfits seen on the ice this year, with Jonny Weir.

I agree that the speed skating is about the most interesting thing that has been on so far (although I really liked the snowboarding too). I'm actually rooting for Davis primarily because I think Hendricks "Aww Shucks Ma'am" personality is a farce.

Davis is an individual in an individual sport. I think his attitude comes from the fact that Hendricks tried to put team and media pressure on him to do something that he has never even pretended to want to be a part of. Davis has been competing in speed skating since he was 12, Hendricks started, three years ago so I think his sweet Texas drawl belies a manipulative personality. The guy has two gold medals. Does he really need to make a teammate look bad because he didn't feel the need to contribute towards you getting another one?

There was no reason to believe that Davis was going to skate with the Pursuit team. He never even practiced with them so to try to put blame on Davis for their loss was tacky in my opinion.

As for Apollo Ohno - wow has he grown up. I'd like to see him take the gold eventually in these games but I've really enjoyed watching his interviews. That's a whole different guy than the one we saw four years ago. Mature, focused just taking it all in stride and seeming to love every minute of it.

BTW - did you see the interview with the Russian pairs after they won the gold? They asked them about the Chinese girl that made that ugly fall and came back to take the silver and Russian girls comment was something about the Chinese having been aggressive during the practice sessions and that just being what you get when you act like that. Left the interviewer speechless.

(Maybe the interviewer just brings out the b*tch in people - she's the same one that had the terse post skate interview with Davis )

Remember when competitors used to say nice things about each other?

I used to ski and play hockey. That being said,I havent watch most of it.I watched the Swedish-U.S.A girls hockey game.I havent watch any of the mens hockey, and probably wont, I just dont have any interest.I dont think professional athletes should be playing these games.Who could ever forget the 1980 OLympics in Lake Placid when the collegians upset the big bad Russians?? and went on to win the gold medal. To me that meant someting-now having all these professional skaters from the NHL playing these games has no meaning-my opinon of course.

Same thing with the summer olympics-having professional basketball players playing the olympics-in fact I dont know why basketball is played in the summer olympics-its a winter sport like hockey-their seasons are almost the same.In fact I dont think I have ever watched the summer olympics-B.O.R.I.N.G.

Our family has been watching them on and off. We thought that they would be on all day Saturday and Sunday, but they weren't.

The channel switching between NBC, USA, CNBC, and MSNBC and then trying to figure out the schedule of live and delayed is not worth the effort in my book.

And what is with all of the curling? Hours and hours of curling...

It was late one night. --And what is curling?/// (i must be so out of it these days...i dont even know what that means.)

Just correcting misinformation, that's all. It could become a full-time job to keep up with it all if I ever took the RT seriously.

BTW, the Canadian men's hockey team has been an embarrassment!

I had a friend whose son was a really really good hockey player like since he was about 4 years old, he was skating. He must be in his twenties by now. Was wondering if he ever made it to semi or pro league level. They told him he'd have to go to Canada. Dont know if he ever did tho. Lost touch with them.

A Canadian-born ice dancer, Tanith Belbin had her American citizenship fast-tracked so she could compete with her US partner in the Olympics and I believe the US did the same for a male Russian dancer.

The Canadian female ice dancer, Marie-France Dubreui fell really bad yesterday and hurt her leg.... it's a dangerous sport.

I used to enjoy watching the Olympics but it's not the amateur games it once was.

I feel it's like pro sports here. Bullsh*t.

LOL>>>Then we just laughed and laughed. --swear to god, true story! (How was I going to explain all that tarot business to an 8 year old kid?)

If it's not the Americans, I always root for the Canadians. I still say Spanish is closer to French than it is to English.

defogger,
What's MVP at college for a Hockey Player?

I am having fun watching the athletes no matter what country the player comes from.

I thought the Womens Hockey was Great.

What about the SNOW BOARDER DUDES and (DUDETTES)? Hey what is a word that for the Gals compares to DUDE?

Helen - what did you think of the men? Do you think the Russian would have won with the old scoring? I thought he was about as unartistic as they come.
