Do you realize how versatile (and cheap) this stuff is? I use it in the spring to make sure my flower seeds don't run into fungus problems. I had to do a search to remember the ratio to water and found out HP has so many other good uses.

The 3% stuff you get at the drug store is good for watering your plants, washing your mouth out - helps your teeth and gums, using as a skin toner on your face, an antiseptic, a household cleaner, a water purifier for tap and well water, natural fungicide, good for animals to drink, and even good for humans to drink - all diluted of course. (I just use the drugstore kind to soak my seeds.)

Did you know jet fuel is made of 85% HP? I didn't. You know how it bubbles up if you put some on your skin? That's because HP is just water with an extra, unstable oxygen molecule attached. When it comes into contact with anything organic, the oxygen molecule is released. That's why it's so good as rocket fuel.

They say the best is to buy Food Grade (35%) and dilute it to 3% (because it has no stabelizers in it) if you're going to drink it.

If any of you get a chance, do a google on it.

Since HP is basically water with an extra molocule of oxygen, I wonder if athletes drink it to enhance their performance and if it's detectable in lab or urine tests.

Pi, sure they do. Since it's natural and not a drug, there's nothing they could do if they did detect it, which they couldn't anyway. I couldn't believe all the stuff I read about drinking it. I guess athletes do it all the time. It's the ratio to water that's always hard to find. Some say a tablespoon per quart, some say 1 oz. per quart. I read you have to work yourself up to a certain dose - to start out slowly because it kills the good bacteria in your stomach and intestines if you take too much, but I couldn't find the starting dose. I'll let you know if I find out.

I gargle with diluted HP sure helps a sore throat and bums. Even brush my teeth in it periodically. All diluted of course. Didn't know you could drink the stuff it taste like you know what.

I knew someone who used it to clean her ears.
She said it worked great as a wax remover. I don't know how safe this is so don't try it.

Right, Maggie!

An ontologist actually poured, straight from the bottle, undiluted peroxide into my ear to remove wax blockage. In the process he also poured some down my shirt...the most amateur performance that I have ever witnessed. But it was effective.

maggie

I use it in my ears. It's perfectly safe. Just put some on a cotton ball and squeeze it into your ear. I have a condition that causes skin cells to flake off and plug up my ears. There's a prescription you can get for it, but HP works just a well and it's a whole lot cheaper!

No burning...He simply left the peroxide there for a few minutes and then removed the wax with some kind of instrument.

Helen, did it cure your self-loathing by the way. Me thinks not

Its actually not the most effective thing for wax or ears but I'll leave you little toads to think so. and kraft, hate to tell you this, but there are different grades of HP. To get the purest kind you have to go buy health food store and pay like 10.00 a bottle. but of course I was on to this years ago when you were still putting on lee press on nails.

On second thought, Maggie...it did burn a little to pay 175.00 for an 89 cent bottle of peroxide.

That's the truth!
Helen, I know you lived here in MS. and I wonder if you have read "Mother of Pearl"
by a local gal, Melinda Haynes. She grew up in Hattiesburg, her first novel. I just read it and really enjoyed it.

I swim a lot and wind up with an ear infection at least twice a year. Always end up doing the HP thing with it. It's CRAZY listening to that bubbling!

I'm afraid I don't see the point in athletes drinking it. Yes, it has an extra oxygen molecule. So what? Oxygen in your stomach is not the same as oxygen in your bloodstream.

Cipro is a broad spectrum antiiotic, kills just about anything. It will almost certainly kill the bacteria causing your ear infection.

Saves the doctor from doing a culture & gets you started right away on a cure.

I always heard put rubbing alchol in the ears to help dry them out for swimmers ear. That is put it in right after being in water not if infected. If you get an infection from swimming or water in ear you definately need an antibiotic so the Dr. said with my son who got infection few years ago.

Never heard of using the HP in ones ears before...

but it was recommended by our vet to use alcohol to clean and help keep dry our beagles ears. Said it worked great on any long-eared dogs.

We tried it and it worked wonders...no more scratching at her ears...kept the insides nice and dry and never had to deal with ear infections that are common in long-eared dogs.

If you buy the food grade HP be careful with it. Don't go drinking it or putting it in your ears without diluting it. Real poisonous and it'll burn your skin and bleach your clothes. Good stuff though. Lots of uses.

If the undiagnosed blockage is left untreated over a long period of time and "ones ears" fail to relay information to the brain, "one" probably needs a pneumatic drill to clear the blockage.

Then re-education of this unfortunate individual should follow.

The use of peroxide in this case will be as hopeless as pissing in the ocean.
