Police arrested him last month after discovering him in possession of a Bible during questioning over a dispute for custody of his two daughters. Prosecutors have offered to drop the charges if Rahman converts back to Islam, but he has refused."

The propagation of hate ideology by Saudi Arabia is known to be worldwide, but its occurrence within the United States has received scant attention until now. Lets see... an assistant to the president of the country is intervening in the trial claiming mental incompetence which would get him off.
Sounds to me like the government is trying to disable the situation in the least volatile manner possible.

But four senior clerics interviewed by The Associated Press in their mosques in Kabul said Rahman deserved to be killed for his conversion.
"He is not crazy. He went in front of the media and confessed to being a Christian," said Hamidullah, chief cleric at Haji Yacob Mosque.
"The government is scared of the international community. But the people will kill him if he is freed."
"He is not mad. The government are playing games. The people will not be fooled," said Abdul Raoulf, cleric at Herati Mosque. "This is humiliating for Islam. ... Cut off his head."
Raoulf is considered a moderate cleric in Afghanistan. He was jailed three times for criticizing the Taliban's policies before the hardline regime was ousted by U.S.-led forces in 2001."

ROME (AP) — Italy granted asylum Wednesday to an Afghan who faced the death penalty for converting from Islam to Christianity, and Premier Silvio Berlusconi said the man was in the care of the Interior Ministry after arriving in Italy earlier in the day.
Conversion is a crime under Afghanistan's Islamic law. Rahman, 41, was arrested last month after police discovered him with a Bible. He was brought to trial last week for converting 16 years ago while working as a medical aid worker for an international Christian group helping Afghan refugees in Pakistan.
Muslim clerics in Afghanistan condemned Rahman's release, saying it was a "betrayal of Islam," and threatened to incite violent protests.
Some 500 Muslim leaders, students and others gathered Wednesday in a mosque in southern Qalat town and criticized the government for releasing Rahman, said Abdulrahman Jan, the top cleric in Zabul province.
He said the government should either force Rahman to convert back to Islam or kill him.

If they Democratically elected this Islamic party into power, and that power chose to implement Islamic Law, it sounds like Democracy is working precisely as intended.
What, you were expecting them to adopt our Constitution too? Democracy is simply majority rule. If the majority are Muslims, what would you expect?
Democracy is one thing. Capitalism, tolerance and freedom are completely different ideas. They are often related, but obviously not always.

If you think Afghanistan's form of Democracy is worth even one of the American lives that we are still loosing is worth it. I feel bad for you.
If you think the U.S. money we are spending in Afghanistan that brings this form of Democracy is worth it. While Americans are suffering in poverty. Again I feel bad for you.
If you think DUMBO BUSH should go on T.V. like he does and brag about what he calls the Democracy he brought Afghanistan. You have to be almost blind to what is really happening in Afghanistan.

Yep, glad the so-called moderate clerics showed their true faces by announcing to the world they wanted that muslim convert KILLED for choosing to become a Christian.
It's not JUST their radical clerics....that are showing their religious hatred to the world.
But don't go pissing them off by printing ANY cartoons about their leader or they'll declare war on your country too.
