Does anyone here live between SF and LA? Mr. Kraft is flying out for a week vacation. He lands in SF Monday afternoon. He and his buddy are going to rent a car and drive along the coast to LA. Does anyone know of any sights they should go to? Anything they should know?

Take the 101. That's all they need to know. When you see all those amazing coastal shots of people cruising with the top down, cliff on one side, ocean on the other... that's the 101.

A good friend of mine and I took that drive from LA to SF on our way to vist one of our friends up there. It was the best road trip I ever took. Amazing sites. Cool little towns along way. It's an all day trip but it's well worth the extra time vs taking the 5.

If you were going I would say to allow for two days, take it slow, enjoy the shops and some of the local cafes and a cool little walking trail south of Monterrey that gives you a change to get out and stretch for a bit) butI'm thinking the two guys are just going to enjoy good food and the turns along the cliffs .

Yep tell them to take 101 for sure.

It's about a 10-11 hour drive going that way though....all windy road....as opposed to 6-7 hour drive taking 5....and 5 is BORING all the way.

They're going to come back and be singing 'Wish They All Could Be California Girls'..

All those near naked, hard bodies on the beach....heck...they may not COME back. lol

Thanks for the info. He wanted me to tell you they're taking 7 days to get from SF to LA, not doing it in one day. He says he's taking Hwy. 1 - the Pacific Coast Hwy. They just want to see all the sights - it's their first time.

7 Days? Are they riding bicycles?

He's right about the 1 though. That's the one I meant. (I have a feeling Linda did the same thing I did and confused the two) If they are going to cruise PCH and have all that time, tell them not to stop in LA, but keep going south. A lot more little "seaside" towns n such between LA and San Diego.

When they are in LA....

-I can't remember the name of it but there is a great "Meditation Park" in LA - it's south of Brentwood, east of Sepulveda, big lake, monster koi, swans, just a cool relaxing vibe.
-Toi on Sunset - killer Thai food
-ChaChaCha - Sure it looks like a wierd pink house in a run down residential neighborhood near downtown LA but great Carribean food.
-Best coffee and conversation ... Priscillas in (technically) Toluca Lake (it's right around the corner from Warner Bros, 2 blocks from Atlantic Records in Burbank).

Yes, I did too, fenix.

But in some places Hwy 1 automatically turns into 101 and then back into PCH/1. Can't take 1 all the way down....and won't always be ON the coast...but very close to it.

Don't know what his interests are but Santa Barbara is a beautiful place to visit....and if he has an interest in seeing one of the CA Missions, their's is beautiful there.

Also a little before they get to the LA Co. line they'll go past a place that's like Great America....a theme park in Saugus, I believe called Magic Mountain. Mostly big kid rides like at most amusement parks...not much else.

He'll also pass Malibu....where the rich and famous STARS live. Multi-million dollar homes that look small from the street side - which face the Hwy.

Hope they get a chance to drive through Hollywood at night.....see all the CA kooks...lol

Can't think of much else....it's a most beautiful drive...but not a whole lot to do or see....just tons of beach communities along the way.

Although now that I think about it....isn't Hearst Castle in between there somewhere? Can't miss it from the road....it's HUGE. I want to say San Simeon?

They offer different tours of it. HearstCastle

Okay....more is coming to me through this 'fog' now.

They could spend at least one full day in SF....tons to see and do there.

PLUS just a few miles north of SF is a quaint town named Sausalito....where people live on the water in their house boats....and a famous madame used to work out/her brothel used to be.

My favorites are driving to see their 'Painted Ladies' - take tours of some of the restored homes. Victorian houses set side by side and painted as they were in the City's BIG days.

Lombard Street...is another world famous sight....of course their downtown Marina area....China town...the military ships that come into port are impressive to watch. And they might catch a cruise ship coming or going too.

They have a boat ride to Alcatraz Island...an old imfamous prison. Boat rides in the bay too. Lots of fresh crab legs...clam chowder to die for...good eats all over the place.

Then about 55 miles south of SF...is San Jose...another old CA mission and the world famous Winchester Mystery House. Built and worked on by the famous Winchester rifle inventor. They have a small gun museum there....and offer a tour of SarahWinchester'sMysteryHouse.....where the 'spirits' told her to keep building and she did. Haunted house with staircases that go no where....doors inside that have a two story drop off. Only takes about an hour to go through. Everyone we took there loved it. It's weird, but interesting and they were beginning to furnish the house when we moved here.

Then IF they're into hockey...the San Jose sports arena SanJoseSportsArenaTicketBookingSchedule....where our 'S.J. Sharks' call home.
Might just catch a game...I don't know their schedule but it would be online.

Downtown offers most of the culture stuff that most cities do.

Also has a China town.

On the Mystery Houses' link....there are other recommendations for that area too. Like visiting Santa Cruz beach....again, GREAT clam chowder....Monterey where they now have a HUGE aquarium...and where the canneries used to pack the fish and vegetables.

Mr. Kraft is flying out for a week vacation.

Without you? All those California girls and all those topless bars to keep him warm after a cold Canadian winter????

Thanks sooo much!! You are all such a big help.

And I might not be as cute as I once was, but I bet no tanned American beauty could hold a candle to my perfectly tweezed eyebrows and lack of chin and mole hair.

bear's right, KD.

You'd better concentrate on a bikini wax job....and not your facial hair.

A little mole hair- my kind of chick! Kidding. You are a trusting sole or is it while the cats away the mice will play? Another kidding. He will definately enjoy that vacation taking the 101. Beautiful sites to see. Tell him to come to Texas and pick me up.
