Disclaimer - this is not an attack - this is a question...

Can anyone explain why FOX commentators refer to 9/11 as Nine One One? It's not like it's only one that does it, most of them do, even when talking to a guest that refers to it as Nine Eleven, which makes me think it's a directive from management (ala "Homicide Bombers" ).

I just don't get it. The 11 in 9/11 is a date. No one says "My birthday is April one one". They say Eleven.

I get the rational behind calling suicide bombers homiced bomber (don't agree since ALL bombers are trying to commit homicide, Suicide bomber are a specific subgroup but anyway....), but I cannot figure out the one behind removing the date charachterists from a number that does indeed represent a date.

Any ideas?

It's probably just another attention grabber to wake up their brain numbed audience while at the same time reframing 9/11 to suit their right wing propaganda.

It was a directive from Dick Cheney to Rupert Murdock. Dick is obsessed with watching FOX news.

Its obvious. Fox does it to differentiate themselves from the mind numbing MSM drones.

So, in otherwords, no... you can't figure out a logical reason to remove the date connotations from the date either?

It's simple, because nine one one is the familiar code for an emergency situation. It immediately pushes your brain response button for the fight or flight mode.

mags - I guess what I don't understand is that no one tries to change the name of D-Day or Pearl Harbor so why try to change 9/11.

It was a world changing event known to everyone by the date. Why refer to the date in a way that no longer connotates a date?

Most of the lower intelligent ones that they are targeting for an audience to keep their ratings high can count to ten on their fingers so eleven is a number that they may not understand.

I think that must be why she wears sandals bear so as to have the extra digits, she was embarrased once having to take off her shoes at the store.

Because D-Day or Pearl Harbor didn't fall on the familiar 911 number. It's just that 911 is our country code for emergency situation.. that's all..just using the emergency number because the date corresponds.. and people identify with it.

Nine-One-One = three syllables
Nine-E-Lev-En = four syllables

It's simply easier to say. Simpler is better with broadcasters.

'To get to eleven, I just drop my pants'

But in your case you only get to ten and a half.

-------------------

Bebo touched on part of the reason. The rest of the reason why is because 9/11 was the ultimate emergency response call, one that hopefully won't be surpassed for a long time to come. In otherwords, refering to it as nine one one shows reverence for all that died on that day.
