Just curious, but who has read Seymour Hersh's article in last weeks New Yorker about the showdown with Iran? What did you think?

So... what does this mean? That Bush will go out in in a blaze of glory, with the American people believing that they have been saved?

Rusty, the way I understand it is that most likely Bush has plans to attack Iran's nuclear facilities by surprise, justifying the act as he did in Iraq, a strike against potential terrorism. Did I misunderstand the articles?

I haven't had a chance to read the other link that Helen provided. I hope to do so in the next few hours.
I found Hersh's article interesting from two perspectives. The first was that I was a bit skeptical going into reading his article. I keep an eye on both liberal and conservative media and it seemed I was barraged by both sides. I didn't feel the article was biased in a way that was anti-war as I expected I would find. Second, I found more perspective into how an extremist can rile up their base so easily. It is scary to think that you in essence have two egomaniac bullies pushing each other around. Too bad you couldn't have Bush and Ahmadinejad duke it out in a cage match where they couldn't do harm to the rest of the world.
Off subject, but somewhat related... this whole showdown reminds me of the last two episodes of South Park where FOX's Family Guy show is supposed to make a Mohammed joke, so Al Qaeda threatens to retaliate to the full extent of their power if Family Guy runs it. In the end, Family Guy airs the joke, which is censored in hopes of not offending Al Qaeda., Al Qaeda gets offended and retaliates by airing a cartoon they view as offensive... Americans being pooped on by Jesus, going as far as Jesus pooping on George Bush. Sure, it was supposed to be offensive, but you obviously see the point I am making. Two extremes attempting to push each others buttons.
Back to the article. If anything, I hope that the article will serve notice to this Administration that they must make necessary diplomatic strategies before they jump. The neocons here love to spew the ideology that liberals only complain, but in reality, most liberals that are against the Iraq war have promoted the ideology that Iran and North Korea were and still are the countries that pose the threat, not Iraq. Now Bush has spread our military thin. He hasn't finished the job in Afghanistan as the Taliban are still creating problems, Bin Laden hasn't been caught, and now that Bush has squandored billions of dollars and lost thousands of American lives, he will expect a blank check for Iran. Bush has made it clear that his goal is to leave a legacy of war, but to pass on the responsibilities of cleaning everything up to future generations. Iran's President is even more out of touch with reality, as it will be his people who will suffer greatly. The problem is that the Bush Administration thinks that by striking Iran, it will create an uprising against the current regime in Iran. Talk about backwards thinking. It will be a rallying cry for Muslims around the world. China and Russia get alot of oil from Iran, and China is especially vunerable to problems in Iran if things get out of hand. Do we want to go down that road? What about North Korea? As I have said for 4 years, it is about time we look within ourselves to find the solutions to the global energy crisis. This Administration has wasted 3 years and billions of dollars fighting a war that should have never took place. Instead, we should have been working on relations with Iran and North Korea, where the real threat has been all along.

Rusty, I agree with you that war is not the answer.
The problem I am not understanding is when other countries have nuclear weapons, why is Iran being singled out?

On Fox News tonight....O'Reilly quoted a statement hersh has made that was a LIE. figures...
Then O'Reilly ran the tape on what he ACTUALLY said....proving him a liar.
No wonder you like his articles....it fits you well.
While the democratic party complains about everything THIS President does to protect our Nation:
What would a Democrat president have done at that point? Apparently, the answer is: Sit back and wait for the next terrorist attack.

I think Linda quoting Bill O'Reilly is the real amusement. This is the same guy who likes to pretend he was in the military, when in fact he was a journalist. This is also the same guy who claims "I won the national punting title for my division as a senior." O'Reilly graduated in 1971, but Marist didn't have a varsity team until 1978. LOL!!! Intramural Sports at Marist... That is what O'Reilly led in punting. Intramurals. LOL!!!!!!!

My opinions are every bit as valid as yours are and for all your self proclaimed superior political knowledge...MY VOTE COUNTS AS MUCH AS YOURS! lol lol..now doesn't that just fry ya..lol lol
