I admit it.... many years ago when I was living in LA I fell victim to an addiction. I am a root beer adict. Not just any root beer though, Henry Weinhard's Root Beer. When I moved out of LA I lost my connection and kicked the habit...and remained clean for 5 or six years... until last week.
There I was wandering thru the grocery store hoping to once again find the suger cane cola that they carried all of once, I think by accident, when I saw... not just the old familiar six pack of bottles, but the coveted 12 packs!!. It's all over for me now. I mean, how am I supposed to just walk by those bottles of yummy brew with a hint of sassafras and vanilla (I admit it, I don't taste the honey)? I am doomed!!

I never thought the claws of addiction would touch you, Fenix. I can't believe you gave in so fast. Didn't you know you're never to grocery shop while hungry or thirsty? Were you just playing games with fate? I'd like to give you a big hug and tell you everything will work out, but for some reason, I think you might be screwed.

so you're gonna give someone a big hug and they might be screwed......not sure what you mean by that.

Krafty - if you have ever tasted this, you would know, thirst has nothing to do with giving in. I would take it over chocolate any day of the week.
Besides, I exist in a constant state of thirst.
Mags - not sure. I never heard of it but there are a lot of regional brands.
I went by the store this morning to pick up some more and they were sold out of the 12 packs and almost sold out of the 6. Manager said they replaced IBC with it and have never had a new product sell so quick. (He's been writing rain checks on the 12 packs for a couple days now trying to get a new order in)

So, the mysterious mistress Addiction has gotten her long, bony, clawlike fingers into your hide. She's a homewrecker that steals the wealth away from families and leaves them destitute and begging in the streets. She creeps up on you disguised as a trusted friend, a family member but later she becomes your lover and you can't live without her. She's a whore that know's no mercy and must be fed constantly, lest you suffer a fate worse than death. Just when you think your life is on an even keel she sinks her claws deeper into your flesh, strangling you and taking your breath away. You try to leave her but she just won't let you go. She now holds you tighter, loving you with all her might and fury. When all your energies have been drained and you are totally spent only then will she loosen her grip a little but be forwarned that she could rear her ugly head in an instant to steal away any new found strength that you may be able to muster. She will leave you as a quivering mass of fetid goo on the floor, whimpering every so often and afraid to leave the box in the trash heap she has left you in.

The Berries and Cream Dr Pepper tastes like throwup.
The soda companies sure are coming out with some weird flavors lately.

Well...ok...but if she does i'm ready with the restraints, buckets, full face shields, rain poncho's and I got a new music cd called Bastard Sons Of Johhny Cash. Listening to it while tied down will exorcise all evil demons within anyone.

Krafty - It's a pain in the rear end isn't it? The most annoying part for me is that thirst wakes me up. I have a hard enough ytime getting to sleep but then once I am there I wake up every hour or so needing something to drink and then there are the endless trips to the bathroom.
I had to quit the Crystal Light because the aspertame actually makes me thirstier so trying to find something that I can drink gallons of a day without adding 10lbs a week is my new quest.
Bear - nope - I am still a smoker. I'm fatalistic about it. It's probably going to kill me but in the meantime ... it's not as if it's going to stunt my growth

Fenix, have you had a test for diabetes? Insatiable thirst is an early symptom.
My favorite soda is Manhattan Special a carbonated espresso coffee drink. It's been around for about 100 years but is only distributed in New York and Jersey mostly in Italian Deli's.
Occasionally I have a case or two shipped to me from the factory (the freight is as much as the soda).

Not to be a bummer here but Constant thurst is maybe indicative of Diabetes? Have you checked that out? Just a thought.
I love rootbeer floats.

Dave - I've been tested for it a few times. I've been like this since I was pretty young and the first time I heard about thirst being a symptom I got checked out and have been checked out every few years since. I do appreciate the heads up though.
Next week I am going in to see if maybe it's not thyroid related. For someone that is constantly intaking liquids, I have obscenely dry skin and my hair is no where near as thick as it used to be which are two signs of hypothyroidism.
At least that's a cheap fix...a 3 month supply of synthoid is all of about $30.

Fenix.. no way could you have hypothyroidism.
You might have hyperthyroidism though.
You who sound like a spinning top all of the time, just doesn't describe hypo.. that is when you are very energy depleted, tired all of the time, dry skin, very little body hair in some cases, swollen eyelids, nervous, sleepless and depressed and gain weight easily.
Those symptoms don't describe someone like yourself who only stops long enough to chug a root beer every hour..

Fenix, I just bought some IBC diet root beer, and I don't like it as much as the A&W..
I also tried coke Blak and it is good for a change, not something I'd drink all of the time though but I like the coffee/coke flavor.

I think the only good diet root beer I ever had was Barq's. IBC gets a lot of praise but it never really struck me a special.
I'm actually sending a six pack of the Weinhard's (box marked refridgerate before opening) along with a pair of new mugs (box marked freeze before opening) for her bar to my mom for Mothers Day. The step has been told to have vanilla ice cream on hand. She's at that point where she doesn't want "things" so I have to be a little more imaginative now.

Bebo, do you sit out on the veranda sipping your bottled soda with your little finger extended while fanning yourself in the Mississippi heat with a hardcover book. Or do you just guzzle down your soda as soon as you pull it out of the fridge, greedily gulping it down like a thirsty dog and then wipe your mouth on your shirt sleeve.
