For those who may be interested there is a live webcam set up showing a pair of eagles with their chicks hatching on Hornby Island.
We have been watching it off and on for a couple of weeks and the two birds share shifts on the nest while one hunts.
The site has received over 100 million viewers so had to increase its bandwidth as they are getting four to six million hits a day.

Mingo, you're right. There was a method to my madness when I posted this and now it's caught up with me. Get over it!
Now they say the egg they thought had hatched isn't yet. We were looking earlier and saw both eggs still intact.

Double reminds me of an eagle baby. I wonder if one of the chicks will look like her?

The eggs were laid on March 21st and 24th, and expected to hatch around the 26th and 30th respectively but if the eggs don't hatch it may be because they were never fertile.......these eagles are supposedly elderly ones.
They reported over 150 inhabited eagle nests within the Vancouver city limits now as they have lots of food including rats. Unfortunately they also like cats. On one of our properties there were eagles and owls and coyotes so we always had to keep our cats indoors.

That is just really neat it is still light there and was dark earlier today? so why is that is it not dark there at this time of night? That eagle is moving his or her eggs around and wallering all over them to get them snug I guess. Sure is interesting to watch. Hope the eggs hatch. Will have to keep watch on it to see I suppose. Thanks for sharing.

It's dark here now but as I understand it, during the dark hours they rerun the day video for other viewers that couldn't watch it during the day. Sometimes when it looks black it's because the page won't load correctly because of so many hits and it also freezes quite often.
I heard on the news this morning when I posted that one had hatched yesterday but couldn't get into the site and then later they reported it was just fluff on the egg. Sometimes the eggs look like they have cracks but it's just grass on them.
If you can get into the forums on the site (sometimes they're slow also) they have one that shows lots of screenshots of the birds that were taken at different times by other viewers over the last while.

There is live video of nesting birds from all over the world so you can maybe find some in your area. Here is a list of all the birds and sites. I found it on the eagle forum as some are also watching storks nest in Germany.

The only time I can see the video is after midnight. I saw them last night around 1 AM, saw the eggs too.. how sad if they won't hatch.

Today there is only one egg in the nest. If the other one doesn't hatch by tomorrow there may not be too much hope left. These eagles have been sharing a nest for 17 years.

So sad only one egg. I saw just the one when the eagle lifted up and moved it around. Be nice if at least the one would hatch and be alive. site is so slow guess everyone is tunning in. I think they are replaying the daytime film at night since I have never been able to see any video during the day.

You're right, Classic that's longer than many marriages these days. Eagles mate for life unless one of them is killed and then the other will seek a new partner.
Irked, when the owner of the property set up the webcam he never expected it to get anywhere near this amount of attention from all over the world. When I looked earlier it seems like the eagles sometimes try to 'listen' to the egg......... they seem very dedicated parents. I was wondering if they booted the one egg out when it didn't hatch after a certain amount of days and if this egg doesn't hatch if they will try again?

Maggie, it's been very windy lately but hopefully the worst is over now........ earlier when I was watching the bird's feathers being ruffled so much I felt sorry for her/him.
I put my hummingbird feeders out on my porch and have been watching them feed and whenever I work in my office I can see them from my window. When I moved I wasn't sure that I'd see them again so I'm glad to have some more around as they're truly fascinating to watch up close. I think I read where they have about 50 wing beats per second.

I have been reading the forums at the site and the guy that set it up his webpage also. They seem to think the eagles may be getting too old to have fertile eggs but are still hoping. Very interesting tidbits on his site. hancockhouse

A robin made a nest on the railing of our front porch and is setting on a egg.
We are making everyone that comes to the house go to the back door. Don't disturb the nesting bird we say. LOL

Irked, thanks for the link to Hancock House, I enjoyed reading there.
When the eagle eggs didn't hatch when due I kind of expected it would end this way but it is sad. Eagles aren't always fun to watch though, on a news program tonite they showed a heron's nest with four chicks in it and an eagle swooped in and stole two of the babies at one time. Ouch!
I heard that the owner of the site has another nest with an eaglet hatched in it that he's going to show next.
