Hum I figured everyone would have something to say about that break-away Mormon polygamy headlines. Head of FLDS polygamist clan warren Jeffs that is on the FBI 10 most wanted list. I have watched all the shows the last 2 days on it and MAN is that group of practicing multi wife religious fanatics cult group is just crazy. He-double hockey sticks I got one wife too many now don't know what I would do with 5 or 6? and 40 to 60 kids........probably hang myself.
I find it hard to believe this crap goes on and the people actually fall for the mind games these cult leaders carry out. Talk about dumbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbb! Actually brain washed and intimidated but still just plain dumb.
If I brought home an 18 or younger gal and said this is wife #2 my wife would kill the bit&* first then me after extensive torture. Me thinks I am brainwashed to know my place!

LOL! They have been talking about Jeffs for awhile because of the Texas compound and the land he bought to start a new one in.... damn, I forgot what state.
He's a bit nutsy for my taste too.

Warren Jeffs has been reported on in our news of late because they are also searching for him in B.C. where he is linked to a small border town called Bountiful in eastern B.C.
There has been much controversy throughout the years because of the way the women and young girls are treated and it is said that they are exchanged back and forth across the border with communites in the US to increase the gene pool. There was also outrage over the government grants for schooling and the welfare payments they receive each month.
CBC's The Fifth Estate has a timeline on Bountiful with the history and investigations.

Hadn't heard of Bountiful will check it out. Yes it is a shame how the women and girls and the kicked out boys are done. This creep just wants the girls and women around so the men can have their stupid egos boosted with so many wifes. Don't know how they support them besides the welfare robbery they are doing. the government should step in and stop it for sure.
Several news reports call it the taliban of the US.

Last updated May 12 2006 11:23 AM PDT
Three American women living in the polygamous B.C. community of Bountiful have been ordered to leave the country by Canada Immigration.
Edith Barlow, Martha Chatwin, and Zelpha Chatwin are all married to the former bishop of Bountiful, Winston Blackmore. Among them, they have 16 children, all of whom were born in Canada.
But the women are still American citizens, and their applications to remain in Canada on humanitarian and compassionate grounds have been denied.
The children can stay in Canada with their father, and his more than 20 other wives.
The three women can't apply to immigrate as spouses, because they are not legally married. And they don't qualify as skilled workers, or as students.
They may still be able to appeal to the Federal Court, or ask the Canada Border Services Agency to make a determination as to whether their safety would be at risk in the U.S.
Failing that, they may simply refuse to leave. Some other women in Bountiful have already vowed they won't let Canadian Immigration officials separate children from their parents.
The controversial community in southeastern B.C. has an estimated population of more than 1,000 people. It was established in the late 1940s by the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints – a breakaway sect of the Mormon Church.

Polygamy is truly stupid and dreadful. As a 21-year resident of Utah, I've heard a lot about it from the inside.
Women as chattels.
And, worse, the extra wives, beyond Wife #1, claim all kinds of government child support as single women with children--food stamps, ADC, etc. etc. That to me is sheer thievery. I'm surprised (well, maybe not so surprised) that a holy religion so sure that God is on its side could justify stealing. From us, the taxpayers.
But a Mormon neighbor told me they justify taking anything from "gentile" (non-Mormon) people that they can, since they have all the answers and God is on their side.
That crooked Joseph Smith spawned this. May he rot in hell.

Washing: Instead of over-reacting to that question, I'll try to tell you why I'm for gay marriage and against polygamy.
To my knowledge, gay marriage involves two people who choose each other and love each other. It does not involve the spawning of dozens of children. It does not involve asking taxpayers to fund their children's food and welfare. It does not involve geezers pushing out the young men in the community so the old guys can marry the young girls. It does not involve isolated communities protected with shotguns and patrols. It does not involve secret ceremonies for baptism or marriage.
Hmmm. Probably more things to add, but I'm busy today.

I have a mother also Ron.
As for your words of 'tolerance' and 'consenting'.......
If only consenting adults were involved in polygamy it wouldn't matter so much but when children grow up abused and undereducated and also taken advantage of then it becomes a problem. Society shouldn't have tolerance for that nor should their tax dollar support it.

Washington, it's about the harm that might happen to the children, not the adults. I'm sure nobody gives a rat's butt how many people other people marry, but when so many children are involved, people should be concerned.
Besides, polygamists always have a million children. Do you know of any that have remained childless or adopted, seeing they're really into God's word and all? That's what's so sad about them - their blatant self-absorption, not their multiple marriages.

It doesn't surprise me if you see nothing wrong with men who take child brides, Ron. Don't you have a history here of being the one that wants your woman to be subservient because you have a basic fear that one may be a bit too independant so you won't have complete power over her?

Wrong kiara, you have no history of me. But nice try to divert the subject.
It is apparent liperals really have no tolerance.
Considering your age, I am surprised you object to child brides.
