Not content to bend over and spred-em for Bush after the administration called him unamerican and a coward, McCain cozies up to Jerry Falwell and the graduating class of his "University". This man is the ultimate disappointment in politicians. His pandering to the ultra right makes Hillary's move to the center look downright genuine.

So, McCain has slouched to your level of acceptance now shared by only 29% of the American public. How wretched for him and for you.

It's too bad that isn't so peepa, but it isn't. McCain remains widely popular among dems and reps and will be a force to reckon with in the next election. I used to have great respect for the man and have met with him a couple of times on regional issues. Now, he's just another sell out.

prof- I, also, have held alot of respect for McCain in the past. I haven't seen much out of the ordinary to make me lose all respect now. All hopefuls "kiss-up" to garner support. I don't believe this is any more than that. I don't believe it means he views things quite the way they do. I still see him as more middle-of-the-road, like most Americans, whether Democrat or Republican.

The biggest problem with McCain is that he flip flops more than George Bush and John Kerry combined. He has NO backbone to stand up for himself, let alone anyone else including his own family. It was as if his balls were ripped from him and fed to Barney for kibble.
I like McCain's sense of humor, but beyond that... you can never pinpoint what he stands on or for. At least Bush stood on "aircraft carriers and rubble", though we see how far that got him and the rest of this country.

Profe51,
Most of the people I have talked to feel like you do about McCain. I think that same feeling is becoming wide spread with people in both parties. I think this untrusted problem comes from BUSH BASHING HIM and now his latest attempts to nose up to what is left of the religious right.
Your right McCain will still be a factor but I don't think a real strong one. Like Rusty said he FLIP FLOPS to much plus his health is a consideration.
Right now when I am out and about getting votes for Democrats. I am staying focused on the November 2006 Elections. Pennsylvania has a very good chance of DUMPING TRICKY RICKY SANTORUM.
LATEST BUMPER STICKER AROUND HERE SAYS "SANITIZE THE SENATE FLUSH SANTORUM"

twig, I guess what leaves the worst taste about McC is the way he tucked tail and came back to Bush after the way he was treated during the election. They treated him like scum, cast aspersions about him that were unbelievable. They were as hard on him with lies and innuendo as they were on Kerry, yet he came back and supported them. I used to hold McCain in the same regard I hold Goldwater. Not any more.

My brother is a Phoenix zillionaire, has had fundraisers for McCain and -yikes- Dan Quayle in his big home. Hates "Hill'ry." We have tacitly agreed not to discuss politics, ever.

McCain pissed off the die hard liberals and many dems when he said, "No thanks to old traitor kerry." He wouldn't run as his V.P. in 2004.
That's when McCain said he might not agree with some of what Bush was doing....but he was and always will be a REPUBLICAN.
LOL
Sore losers...are now seeing him in a different light.
While the democratic party complains about everything THIS President does to protect our Nation:
What would a Democrat president have done at that point? Apparently, the answer is: Sit back and wait for the next terrorist attack.
