Seems that some moron took personal information home with him and it was stolen.

26.5 million veterans have the possiblity of Identity theft now, mostly those discharged after 1975 but if you use the VA then it could affect you also.

That moron best be fired.

If a veteran hasn't used any services at all, would their information be at risk?

As a Republican, I'm thinking of myself

Oh, and my father, my brothers, my daughter, my son-in-law, etc......

Yeah, at the very least, someone should lose their job.....

I get a disability ck every month, it just better not mess that up. Crap they might get my account number at my bank. Just thought of that. I demand a firing and an issue of a new number. - when pigs fly.

They need to issue a non tamper proof number system uhhhhhhh yeah when pigs fly. Maybe a new number every year with picture ID like a drivers license only renewable every year. UHHHHHHHHHHH when pigs fly.

The current system sucks as the illegal aliens get kids SS numbers and use them and most don't know they are in use until kid gets to legal age to go to work then it is too late. Maybe just maybe they should issue a use activity on each number everytime it is used or at least quarterly. OK so it would take a forest of paper but there has to be a fall-safe somehow.
I know do away with the numbers period and do away with credit cards,or do away with Crooks period........... At least make it easier to fix your messed up credit due to thieft of your ID. As it sits right now no one cares if it gets fixed or not your credit that is.

Twig, anyone discharged after 1975 is at risk now. Regardless of use. Only those who were discharged before 1975 and use VA services could also be at risk.

Remember twig, that your info is in the system for any benefits you might apply for.

Yep, another screw up on the Republican watch. This doesn't surprise me whatsoever. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised to learn this was done on purpose in order to hire another Bush cronie to "oversee" the problem.

I'm just surprised we don't see any true conservatives complaining about how much money will it cost American tax payers to fix this problem... Just to notify Veterans of the snafu, bulk rate postage will cost tax payers at least 2.5 million dollars, plus all of the manpower to handle irate veteran phone calls, and lets not forget the million dollar severence package the Bush cronie will get once he retires from overseeing this project, and so on.

I hate to say it, but this goes well beyond this one individual. It is the system that created this problem because nobody should be able to remove so called private information to take home with them.

Identity theft is largely a US problem given the reliance on the Social Security number as personal identification coupled with a lack of tough privacy laws (like those in the EU and elsewhere).

Read Bruce Schneier's essay on identity theft for all the gory details.

The point being is that this Administration has no interest in protecting Americans whether it be their personal information, their children, education, Emergency Response, or our Military Service Personnel. The lack of oversight and accountability is appalling and it is a travesty that you don't care to hold these morons accountable. It shouldn't matter what their party lines are. It should matter that they are held to the standards you would expect from any government official.

So are you congratulating the Republicans for the lower unemployment in Oregon also Rusty?

What will you say if the person who took home the information is a Democrat?

Awww... the neocon piggies all ganging up. How cute. Reminiscent of a swingers group.

Neocon Bush Cycle Agenda-

Claim to fund "National Security" in order to "Protect Americans"... Put an inexperienced Bush Crony in charge... Steal the Money... Screw up the cover job... then get more money to "fix" the problem by hiring an outside company run by more Bush Cronies.

Sound familiar piggies??? You love to point fingers at corrupt Democrats, but you don't want any accountability for the people you bend over for.

Is it remotely possible that this idiot employee meant to take that stuff home to sell it to someone and then just claimed a robbery? Why would someone take all that information home, what possible reason?
