Cute cartoon. But really--Eat frequent small snack/meals (good food, not junk food). Bring an apple to work, eat it in the car driving home to keep ahead of your hunger so you don't devour everything in the kitchen when you get in. Apples, the bigger the better, are loaded with fiber and will fill you without adding lots of calories.
Hmmm. On second thought, I'm sure you weren't looking for free advice from Mommy!

I used to work for a race track near here in the summer. What I used to get a kick out of were the people who would order two or three hot dogs, french fries and then top it off with a diet pepsi. I just wanted to scream at these people. Stop stuffing the junk down your throat and stop thinking that by adding a diet soda that you are somehow reversing the effects of the hot dogs and french fries. Geesh.
Cute cartoon, BTW.
BTW - Today marks the 9th week I've stayed cigarette free!!! Just had to share. The cartoon reminded me because I have replaced food for cigarettes. . .gained 10 pounds! That's good because I was about 10 pounds underweight.

Congrats Cheryl!
I have cut down on my smoking (no cigartettes before 6pm) plus I smoke a lot less duringth e summer anyway (I can't stand smoking when it's hot) but I don't see myself out and out quitting anytime soon.

Congratulations, Cheryl!!!!!!!! 9 weeks without cigarettes is a triumph. Good for you!
About the racetrack eaters--I myself have never understood overweight people who drink the *regular* soft drinks and not the diet ones. I've known some who are trying to watch what they eat but scorn diet sodas. If they must drink that teeth-etching junk, at least they could eliminate the calories from it.
And I've seen many who eat the way you describe--fatty meal, topped off with diet soda.
Cutting down is exactly how I did it. One day I decided to see how long I could go without a cigarette and I challenged myself everyday. Pretty soon, I was going a full day without one. I still want one, but the urges are manageable. Try holding onto a pretzel rod the way you would hold a cigarette. I have a bag of them here in my office. The benefits are unbelievable! Anyway, since I don't want to go through withdrawals and the things that went on the first couple of days, I won't start again! Knowing I'd have to do it all over again is enough to keep me smoke free!

Congrats on the being smoke free, Cheryl. Have you experienced smelling someone elses cigarette and having it smell like garbage to you and thinking, how could you do that to yourself, yet?
I'm smoke free since November 1st. I started off with the nico-nasal spray and then went to the nico-gum.
Now junk food like cheeseburgers, fries and diet cokes seem to taste better since quitting smoking.

Congratulations to both cheryl and pi. That's a very hard addiction to stop. I'm very proud of both of you.
As to the 'smell' of a cigarette after one quits smoking...I've had ex-smokers say just the opposite. That for years after they quit...when they'd walk by a smoker...they'd try to get downwind of it...just to get a whiff of it. Still thinking it smelled so good. But I'm happy to hear that's not the case with you Pi.

cheryl, from your posted pictures it appeared to me that putting on 25 pounds wouldn't have hurt you one bit. They used to say that a 'normal' weight for women was 100#'s for the first 5' and then 5#'s for each additional inch over that. So, IF your height was 5'7" then 135#'s would be a 'normal' weight. But imo, you're lucky that your metabolism is such that you run on the thin side.
One of my girlfriends quit smoking and gained 60#'s. UGH. But approx two years later she focused on losing weight again...worked out at the gym and now is so beautifully thin and hard-bodied too.
I wish success to all who quit smoking....and to all who keep trying to quit.

edited to add: On the subject of eating the wrong types of foods....and drinking diet sodas.
It's been my experience that most diabetics who want to drink sodas....drink diet ones. And that even those who aren't diabetic just like the taste better than the regular ones. That it often doesn't have a THING to do with trying to cut calories in that area....just a choice of taste to them.

Smoke doesn't smell bad to me yet. Mildly annoying? Yes. I haven't ventured into a bar or bowling alley since I quit nor have I picked up anything alcoholic. It's too soon for that yet. As soon as I'd pick up a beer, I'd want a cigarette.
I have noticed that when bike riding or hiking, I'm nowhere near as winded and I don't tire as easily. My skin color has vastly improved as has the texture of my hair (not to mention it's smell, lol). I'm also noticing that some of my fine lines seem to be disappearing. So far, I like the results.
I'm 5'6" so I guess I can use another 10 pounds. I just have to find someone to buy me all new clothes!

Congrats on the being smoke free, Cheryl & Pi.
I want to quit need to quit and am contemplating it. I smoke and still can't stand the smell of the cloths just sitting around when I pick them up especially after a shower that is when I smell it the most. UGH. I'll probably be one of those that if I do stop will detest the smell severely.
