Ron, the problem is that a dem got 43 percent of the vote in a district that over 60% republican.
The republican did win but it was not an easy or cheap win.
And personally, I think that saying that advertising on Spanish language radio is trying to appeal get illegals out to vote is repulsive. The top rated radio stations in the area are spanish stations. Is it really nessesary to ignore a top media outlet in order to avoid being accused of encouraging voter fraud?

Also in Alabama, voters passed a ban on gay marriage by a 4-to-1 margin.

It was an uphill battle for Democrats for that seat. From what I've seen the DNC again screwed up by not putting enough money in a Republican stronghold. If the Dems think that a "close" race is acceptable, they obviously don't know the difference between winning and losing a race.

fenix, whether you find it repulsive or not. It is politics and Bibray won. After all of peepa's rants it is funny that people are still voting as they always have. This seat here was a bell weather position and I doubt the Dems will win in Nov either.

"This seat here was a bell weather position and I doubt the Dems will win in Nov either."
You can doubt all you want that the Dems will win in November, but this was most definately NOT a bell weather position. Bilbray didn't even get 50% of the vote in a district that is heavily Republican. If the registration was weighted more evenly, then yes it could be viewed as Bell Weather for the fall. What it really signals is that the Republicans are NOT out of the water yet, as they should have won by 10 points or more based on the population, and the Democrats better think hard about their strategy this fall if they plan on making changes in Congress. What it shows is that the races ahead are going to be as close as everybody expects them to be.

Rusty - I think it says more that the GOP outspent the dem nearly 2 to 1 to eak out a 5% lead in a district where they have about %15 more registered voters.
Sure, the dems could have spent more, but this is an election that determins a 4 month term. This seat goes back to the polls in Novemeber. I think the fact that the GOP poured 5.5 million into the seat shows just how concerned they are.

fenix- it is time that the Dems step up to the plate and fight for every seat. This "let's choose our battles wisely" strategy hasn't worked for Democrats in the past. They've lost too many seats under that strategy to the point where you have to question, "are they really choosing wisely?". I know Republicans are concerned, hence 5.5 million bucks, but it also concerns me that the Democrats still aren't aggressive. If Dems think they can be like Al Gore in 2000, where he woke up too late to realize it was over... it will be over.
Also, I don't know where you got your numbers, but the California 50th District is actually 44% Republican, 30% Democrat and the rest divided up by Independents and other parties. It is still a huge difference at 14%.

The Republican Party spent over 4 million on that race to get the bare win they got. They have a lot of money, but they don't have enough to spend like that even on all the races that matter.
A lot of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

Anyone who thinks that win will not carry over into November is sadly mistaken.
Democrats have no intention of spending the money necessary to win at least in that election.
