How much prison time should these bastards get for printing the story that effectivly ruined a program to track terrorism money?
I say a min of 5 years and no more than 15. Of course in a super max prison.

What the NYT has done is akin to treason by abetting the enemy. They have placed the lives of Americans in mortal danger in their quest for news ratings.
Yet on Sept 24, 2001 they DEMANDED the Bush admin get tough on terror financing.....
http://powerlineblog.com/archives/014523.php
How hypocritical can the NYT's get to boost their falling ratings.

And this is another reason why everyone (the public) does not need to know everything (classified information).
What possible good can come of this? Eventually everything becomes declassified.

So, the neocons here jump all over the NY Times article, offer their opinions about the length of the sentance, but have yet to put together a coherent argument as to exactly what the NY Times supposedly revealed that was so "Top Secret" that would even justify prosecution and exactly how this doesn't fall under the jurisdiction of "freedom of the press".
Oh wait... the neocons actually promote fascism and love to ignore the Constitution... That explains it.

Well most people would not have known about this program of tracking the money for sure EXCEPT for that article that has now TIPPED off everyone including the terrorist.... If you don't want the enemy to know what you are doing then don't broadcast it all over the world!
I find that the news either on paper or Internet or TV sometimes just gives the terrorist helpful hints as to what targets to go after how and the lack of security at particular sites. Also all these reports on the hearings, or controversial issues are broadcast to the world letting them in on how to make more trouble for us. Now that there is allegations about soldiers committing murder??????????? a lot of the other victim families are jumping up claiming murder too.
All these reports don't need to be aired it just adds fuel to the fire and gives no-goods, ideas.
It is not that I don't believe in freedom of press or speech but $h*t - use some common sense and think ahead to if this will hurt the country or help it. I vote for hurt that is all it does 10 fold. SO what if they think they are the first to jump on it some things are better left unsaid when it comes to national security keeping, solving, or causing.
Rusty: just because the constitution grants freedom of press does not mean to always use it. How would you like it if the press ran a story on you that ruined your life just because they had the freedom to do so.
So put that in your pipe and smoke it.

I think you missed the point Irk. The New York Times, LA Times, and the Wall Street Journal all reported this story. Ironic that neocons only bother to mention the NY Times though. Look at the subject line of this thread... Look at how Ron blasts the editors of the NY Times, but never once bothers to mention the Wall Street Journal or LA Times. Perhaps you should ask yourself why that would be? It is nothing more than the typical neocon smear campaign in motion. Sad if you ask me. Now, if Ron would have mentioned the others who ran their stories, we could actually debate the legalities of that, but instead, Ron offered nothing other than a biased opinion.
Beyond that argument, it is the right of the press to report the news they see fit to publish. If this was truly "top secret" information that these papers released, it wouldn't have taken a rocket scientist to know that the Bush Administration could have had a judge placed a gag order on those papers to stop them from publishing the story. Why didn't they do so if it was such sensitive material? Obviously, it is because it really isn't, and nobody at the NY Times will go to jail, be prosecuted, etc., just like nobody at the Wall Street Journal or LA Times will be. The Bush Administration is only attempting to twist the story in order to continue their smear campaign against the NY Times.
I still haven't seen an answer yet, nor do I expect to from Ron or the rest of the neocons as to exactly what the NY Times actually published that was a national security risk. There simply wasn't one and
I would have thought someone like Ron would have been intelligent enough to already know that.

They didn't reveal anything that the President hasn't been talking about for two years or more. This is just a great way for the administration to capitalize on villifying the so called liberal mainstream media. Yawn. Only the diehard base will be impressed. Anyone who thinks it through can see that it's no big deal.

Irked,
I also saw this administration brag about catching at least 2 Al Quaida sympathizers using a money trail over the last couple years.
This NY Times thing is all BULL ROAR and an effort to sway people that don't pay close attention to what this BUNCH OF LIARS are up to. IT STINKS!!!!
After thinking about it do you still believe Al Quaida is naive enough to not realize the U.S. is watching their money flow?
I even remember DUMBO BUSH bragging about how he has cooperation with several Mid East countries about watching money flow.
AGAIN,The New York Times, LA Times, and the Wall Street Journal all reported this story.
THE NEOCON BAND OF BROTHERS ONLY BASHED THE NEW YORK TIMES. THIS LIE STINKS LIKE ALL THE OTHER LIES THE NEOCONS SPREAD.

That's the BS "ron".
I think what you really mean is anyone who publishes the truth about this administration should be silenced. Sadly for you, this is still a free society. No troop locations or other sensitive information were disclosed. Just exactly what is it you think the NYT disclosed that Al Qaeda didn't already know?? No treason. None. These are the last gasps of a regime that can see it's attempt to stranglehold this country failing, and failing in a downward spiral that spins tighter and faster with every passing day.
There won't be any treason indictments. Betcha.

Washingtonebayer, you are assuming that the terrorists are really dumb and uninformed and wouldn't think of their finances being tracked and you couldn't be more wrong because it has been publicized for several years that they are being watched.
The FATF (Financial Action Task Force) was established by the G-7 group of nations in 1989 in response to mounting concerns about the growth of money laundering. In 2001, its mandate was expanded to include terrorist financing. The Task Force examines money laundering and terrorist financing techniques and trends, reviews national and international policy efforts and recommends additional measures for action.

"The Bush administration has repeatedly touted its role as one of the 29 nations working with the FATF "to deny terrorist access to the world financial system."

If anything is VERY damaging to the U.S....then the NYT [treason times] and the WA Post will be sure and print it. Screw the National war on terrorism....if they can MAKE MONEY....sell more newspapers...they'll go for that almighty dollar.
First of all, yes the SWIFT program was previously MEMTION....talked about in VERY GENERAL, unspecific terms....but NOT mentioning WHICH banks were helping us out. THAT in itself gave previously unknown information.
AND now that action HAS created MORE problems for the Belgium banks that WERE helping us. Under more International pressure...they could decide to stop doing so.
THEN the FACT that even the NYT ADMITTED this program WAS NOT BREAKING ANY LAWS>>>>that our Congress was fully aware of it>>>etc. BUT did THAT matter to THEM? Obviously not....
Secondly....the treasonist left supporters/defenders/excusers support these actions AND OTHERS that HARM our troops....["they're murdering thugs"] while they continue saying they support them. Yeah, lets ENRAGE more muslims to try and kill some more of our soldiers because of these reports....usually by ANNOYMOUS - UNVERIFIED sources....and BEFORE the Armed Forces are even able to investigate whether they're actually true or not.
"THEY'RE GUILTY ....way too many on the left ASSUME. NOT giving them the benefit of the doubt. After all....why do something like defend the troops....they're too busy defending/excusing the harmful, anti-America actions from those who ONLY continue to HARM our efforts against the terrorists.
Thirdly it wasn't ONLY the Republicans nor this President that ASKED the NYT to NOT print this story....there WERE some patriot DEMS too who also told them it would be harmful to our National Security. As it has been EVER time they've pulled this anti-American garbage.
And the NYT has given so many NEW excuses for why they chose to do this....it's laughable. Now they're contradicting themselves.....'we printed it on the FRONT PAGE...because it's NEWS'. A NEW discovery...lol lol lol
...but then argue it was ALREADY KNOWN ABOUT - so what's the big deal?
Then why would they print it IF it were old news? They wouldn't. They did so BECAUSE many of the details THEY DISCLOSED had NEVER been disclosed before, that's why. AND because of their agenda against this administraion....AND because the NYT HAS NEVER supported American in ANY WAR we've ever been envolved in.
-------
I sincerely hope the House continues on with asking for an investigation to find our WHO leaked THIS information to the press.
And I hope they're HUNG for treason.

NYT is just out for the publicity this has all stirred up touting WE KNEW IT FIRST! Scoop Scoop Scoop to he[[ with the consequences.
Maybe they are in kahoots with the terrorist. I can believe that just as well as I can believe their excuses.
There is no excuse good enough, valid enough, or justified : to be a low life treasonist cut throat carpet bagging $h*thead jerkwad pi$$ant pile of crap slinging anti--American pantherpi$$ing dumba$$e$,,, for their quest for ratings. Try them for treason and shoot them at dawn for their friggen stupidity... What possible good did they accomplish for the American People but to only help the terrorist confirm their suspicions, and cause banks helping -- to stop their help for fear of lord only knows what.
They got their 15 minutes of fame now hang, shoot or castrate them. There has got to be limits or the world is a lost cause, and all our ire is in vain.
