I have also been listening to alot of Baka Beyond. It's an instrumental mix of African and kind of like Celtic type music using African wood percussion instruments, classical and steel guitar, mandolin and violin.
One album that they made that I really like is called Spirit Of The Forest. Every song on it is a keeper.

Excellent choices, Prof! I had a chance to see Mark at a small venue last year but couldn't get tickets in time. Nobody's guitar playing gets me going like his.
I've been listening to Roy Orbison and AC/DC. I had a crush on Angus back when I was cute.

KD, Knopfler is my favorite geetar player next to Santana...his mix with Emmylou is really fine. I hadn't listened to Van Morrison since I don't know when but this album is really interesting. He revisits a lot of really old country pieces like Your Cheatin' Heart, Half As Much and some others. Funny, a Scot and a Mick doing renditions on American country. I guess it's not so strange, bluegrass and country have their roots in the Scots-Irish hillbillies of the south.

I'm glad you asked that question, Kraft.
Sometime in about 1996 I had purchased the contents of a delinquent rent storage locker and whenever I used to buy storages, I would listen to whatever music that I found in them, just for the heck of it and to see if there was anything new that I would like.
I came across this cassette tape with copies of music on it, like a Memorex or something like that and it had written on it in different colored magic-markers, Groovy Tunes and some colorfull, swirly designs.
On the inside it said Baka Tribe, M. Saunders, Beastie Boys and Bob Dylan.
The first time I listened to it I liked it and for years I played it on all sorts of cassette players but I knew that eventually a tape player would munch it and then it would be lost forever.
I took the tape to numerous music shops but no one could tell me who it was and then I found a clerk in a shop in Albuquerque that thought she knew who it was and she looked it up in their computers and sure enough she found the group name Baka Beyond and said they made several albums so I ordered all of their albums on CD's and paid in advance. One was Spirit Of The Forest. The M. Saunders turned out to be Merle Saunders and his music is pretty good also and I now have a few of his albums too.
There's one track on the Spirit Of The Forest CD that I have to listen to at least once a week with the headphones on. If you like Celtic instrumental music then I highly recommend this album.
Here's their website, if you wanna check out their music and to read about them. Baka Beyond

How about Tangerine Dream, does anyone like them? I used to listen to them all the time and I have several albums on cassette but none on CD.

pi- I have a couple Deep Forest cds. They record the songs of African tribes and couple them with modern music. I first heard them when they won a Grammy and immediately started looking (I had to order it.) It was worth it!

I just purchased Baka Beyond's "Spirit of the Forest" on eBay. I can't wait to listen to it. Should be similar to Deep Forest's work.

Most days we usually listen to music such as Classic Gold out of the UK which has songs from the past three decades. It isn’t very loud and is mostly drowned out by the noise of people, traffic and hopefully 'kaching' sounds. After work and into the night I like it quiet, preferably just the sounds of nature and silence.... except for the little voices in my head.

Thanks Twig, I printed that page so that the next time I go to the music store i'll know what to look for. I'm not so sure I want to buy it from that seller because they are in China. I won't do business with anyone in China.
