Way way back in college a hundred years ago I had a girlfriend for a time who was from Washington state. I went with her up there one time to meet the parents and go fishing for steelhead with her pa and to eventually decide that anyone who can actually live where it rains all the goddarn time is a morose individual with whom I have no future.
Anyways, we went to the Pike's Place Market or whatever it's called where we saw these giant clams that everybody up there calls "gooey ducks". They are kind of gooey, but they sure aren't any kind of duck I ever saw. Biggest clam you ever saw. I don't remember if we ate any or not. We did go clamming for Razor Clams on some beach or other, they're pretty big too but no where near as big as a Geoduck. The razor clams I believe we deep fried, and used their not incosiderable insides for bait to catch surf perch which was also a hoot. Here's a site all about Gooey Ducks.
A hundred bucks for a clam??? Does it come with a blowjob or something????

It is used in certain sushi so it is not cooked. The proper question would be how is it prepared. I only have eaten it once and it tasted like rubber, no seconds for me.

Our son graduated from The Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington. The official school mascot was and is the geoduck (pronounced gooey duck). Don't know how to cook it; never even tried it.

They are not fit to eat in my opinion, and it is clamming season here now on the coast. Razor clams now are delicious.

Thanks for the website.
Sounds like a lot of work ,but they do sell in Asian markets along with the Canadian dungenese crabs!
If I can find some quick frozen ones,I may try some, but not for 100 dollars!!

I remember watching a report on these once and how difficult they are to dig for. They said some eat them as an aphrodisiac because of their phallic shape.

In that case you'd have to figure bananas, zuccini, carrots, cucumbers and, for the virginal ; even SlimJims ought to be aphrodisiacs too and a whole lot easier to come by.

It is known as 'elephant trunk clam' in Far East.
Why eat banana or zuchini when you can consume rhino horn powder or antler dick
?
The way to cook it is to just dip it in boiling sauce for a few seconds!

Prof.
I found it on your website-quick stir or dip in boiling soysauce.
But you have to remove the tough skin first.
great website.
