BAGHDAD, Oct. 31 — Prime Minister Nuri Kamal al-Maliki demanded the removal of American checkpoints from the streets of Baghdad on Tuesday, in what appeared to be his latest and boldest gambit in an increasingly tense struggle for more independence from his American protectors.

The 172nd Stryker Brigade took down a checkpoint in the Karada neighborhood of Baghdad yesterday in response to the prime minister’s orders.
Mr. Maliki’s public declaration seemed at first to catch American commanders off guard. But by nightfall, American troops had abandoned all the positions in eastern and central Baghdad that they had set up last week with Iraqi forces as part of a search for a missing American soldier. The checkpoints had snarled traffic and disrupted daily life and commerce throughout the eastern part of the city.
The language of the declaration, which implied that Mr. Maliki had the power to command American forces, seemed to overstep his authority and to be aimed at placating his Shiite constituency.
The withdrawal was greeted with jubilation in the streets of Sadr City, the densely populated Shiite enclave where the Americans have focused their manhunt and where anti-American sentiment runs high. The initial American reaction to the order, which was released by Mr. Maliki’s press office, strongly suggested that the statement had not been issued in concert with the American authorities.

Liar_k has got herself spinning over a dumb remark by John Kerry. She like other NEO-CON want to dwell on Kerry's misspoken remarks.
She and her other NEO-CON friends are always ignoring important events in Iraq if they don't fit their agenda. liar_k is ignoring the fact that Iraqi politicians are ordering our U.S. Troops around. I think the majority of Americans find our troops being ordered around by Iraqis a lot more troubling and important than a few misspoken words.
If our troops can be ordered around by Iraqi's its time the American people get them the hell out of BUSHY's INVADED HELL HOLE.

Nope....we have all those Americans who WANT our Nation to win the war against the terrorists. They are the intelligent voters who KNOW there's a muslim threat to this Nation. They can SEE what Iran is doing...and when they've accomplished their goal....Israel and the US will be at war.
They surely can' want cowards in control of our military....of cowering to our enemeis...of admitting defeat to our enemies.
We're NOT the party calling for America to ADMIT DEFEAT.... to abandon the Iraqi's to the SLAUGHTER like the dems allowed/forced to happen in VietNam.
Nope....I have FULL faith there are still enough true American patriots.....so unlike the anti-American left.
There are still enough voters that don't want to the extreme dem lefties....allowing and encouraging America's FAILURE.
While the democratic party complains about everything THIS President does to protect our Nation:
What would a Democrat president have done at that point? Apparently, the answer is: Sit back and wait for the next terrorist attack.

No, the problem bigdopa is the fact that Kerry didn't come out and make the correction then appologize to the troops. This is just another left winged liberal lack of support for our military no matter where they are serving.
