I guess this is all part of the "Stay the Course" Plan.
WASHINGTON - Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld, a key target of Iraq war critics, is stepping down, Republican officials said on Wednesday.
Former CIA Director Robert Gates will replace him, Republican officials said.
Earlier today, a spokesman for Rumsfeld said he'd given no indication that he would step down in the wake of Democratic election gains. The spokesman said Rumsfeld would work with Congress on Iraq but added that the focus on stabilizing the country will remain the same.

Considering Rumsfeld's bipartisan lack of confidence, this is long overdue. Maybe last night's election results have opened a few eyes in this administration. Bush was not quite so cocky at his press conference and has a "let's all work together" attitude that has not been evident in the past. If only I could believe it was sincere.

If only we could believe that but I doubt that Bush will change policy. The next move will be an attack on Iran justified with propaganda in the form of bogus "intelligence".
And according to the New York Times which is not a liberal newspaper...."The press will always transmit and amplify government propaganda, and this is especially true with regard to war propaganda."

Helen That is my opinion also. This is a very rigid man who is incapable of admitting he's wrong. A bad trait is someone who is wrong so often At least I have the pleasure of seeing Rumsfeld slink away from Washington.

I've asked her IF she doesn't believe the NYT is a liberal newspaper then WHICH ONE printed in the US is - to her. LOL No surprise she NEVER answers that.

You're WRONG peepa. He is the CIC....he can choose to remain fighting this war IF he wants to. He has said he will. I think he made that REAL clear in his most recent speech. He's going to 'stay the course' and isn't going to conceed his VALUES/ETHICS to ANY dem/liberal/progressive/socialist nor communist.
IF the dems want us out of Iraq...and HE doesn't agree to it.....then they're just going to have to vote to withdraw FUNDING for our troops/the war. PERIOD. THAT'S all they can "force" him [the executive branch] to do.

Yep just like former Governor McGreevey liked women. I feel classic is just in denial. That's OK, there are some people that did not admit they were gay until they were in their 50's or 60's. They came aout after 20+ years of marriage.
