Yup, I saw Schwartzy on TV this morning....I'd been wondering how, he, a Republican, managed to win re-election when not many others could LOL!.
Well, simple, he turned Democrat!
He now advocates things like stem cell research, admits to global warming...
BUT the real corker came when he said he won because he did what the PEOPLE WANTED. He said he was their SERVANT.
Too bad other Republicans don't realize a democracy does NOT have an absolute ruler, no ONE person should make decisions....it should be what the citizens of America want!
Ahnold realized it ! Maybe more will see the light!!?????

1st thing we have to do is figure out what stem cell research or gw have to do with political party. After that we can progress to whether Pelosi or Kennedy do "what most people want", and so must be Republicans.

Well, let's see, bushy, the monarch of the Republican party, is against Stem Cell research. Another of the Republicans stands is that global warming doesn't exist.
If Pelosi or Kennedy don't do what most people want?
First, I'd have to ask the people who keep re-electing them...
But it is nice to see you admit that if they don't do what the people want they ARE Republicans....

mingotree MISTATES the FACTS.....again
"Well, let's see, bushy, the monarch of the Republican party, is against Stem Cell research."
From about.com:
On August 10 2001, U.S. President George Bush formally approved the use of federal funds for research on existing stem cell lines.
Stem cells are important for research because they can potentially differentiate into any other cell type. Proposed applications include tissue regeneration and treatments of degenerative diseases.
The overall impact of President Bush's decision to permit federal funding for research on existing cell lines is a recognition of the potential of stem cells and endorsement of their use in research. The limitation to fund only research on existing stem cell lines, however, is seen by many a significant restriction.

On stem cell research, the Republican platform restricts federal funding to stem cell lines in existence on 9 August 2001. And they've traditionally put environmental issues on the back burner while ridiculing the concept of global warming. So...apparently it does have "something to do with political party".
It should be clear that Republican policy is not the answer to "what most people want". Did you notice the election results and George's miserable approval rating?

All but the ignorant KNOW that the ONLY type [of several] stem cell researches THIS President doesn't NOT approve of are EMBRYO ....the making of humans to KILL them.
===============
From Our President, in part:
Leading scientists tell me research on these 60 lines [embryos] has great promise that could lead to breakthrough therapies and cures. This allows us to explore the promise and potential of stem cell research without crossing a fundamental moral line, by providing taxpayer funding that would sanction or encourage further destruction of human embryos that have at least the potential for life.
I also believe that great scientific progress can be made through aggressive federal funding of research on umbilical cord placenta, adult and animal stem cells which do not involve the same moral dilemma. This year, your government will spend $250 million on this important research.
I will also name a President's council to monitor stem cell research, to recommend appropriate guidelines and regulations, and to consider all of the medical and ethical ramifications of biomedical innovation. This council will consist of leading scientists, doctors, ethicists, lawyers, theologians and others, and will be chaired by Dr. Leon Kass, a leading biomedical ethicist from the University of Chicago.
This council will keep us apprised of new developments and give our nation a forum to continue to discuss and evaluate these important issues. As we go forward, I hope we will always be guided by both intellect and heart, by both our capabilities and our conscience.

LOL....and as far as it being a 'republican' issue.....helen couldn't be any more wrong than she already is.
BOTH the Senate and the House voted FOR embryo cell research.....Bush VETOED it'. The HOUSE couldn't override his veto.
Imo, that won't be changing even with a new dem congress. He'd STILL veto it. And I seriously doubt they'd be able to override it even now. [after Jan.]
=======
edited to add a more recent article on the President's position. AND to NOTE that he was the FIRST President to direct funding FOR this research.
What happen with it during clinton's EIGHT years??? NOTHING.

Then it's your terrible comprehension issues.....lol
I'll take HIS word over yours....sure you don't mind.
"I'M A MODERATE"
Fresh from a landslide victory in his bid for a second term, California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger -- once widely known as a conservative Republican -- now describes himself as a moderate and says he's always been one.
"I've always been a moderate," he told Tim Russert Sunday on NBC's "Meet the Press." "When I came into office three years ago, you and I talked about it then. I was, you know, promoting and pushing stem cell research then already, literally. I was not even in office when I was already out there campaigning for stem cell research. I think this is just a very important issue.
"And we shouldn't look at those issues as Republican issues vs. Democratic issues, or conservative vs. liberal. These are people's issues," he explained. "We need to address those issues because I think that if we really promote stem cell research and fund stem cell research, I think we can find cures for very, very important illnesses that so many millions of people are suffering from. And I think that if it has to do with global warming, or if it has to do with raising the minimum wage, or if it has to do with lowering prescription drugs for vulnerable citizens -- all of those things are people issues, not Democratic issues or Republican issues.
And I think we were able to bring both of the parties together and accomplish all of those things."
When asked if he considers himself a Bush Republican, he told Russert he was really a "Schwarzenegger Republican," and described that as "basically being fiscally conservative, being socially moderate and you know, being environmentally progressive. I think that's what it basically means.
And you know, Tim, one of the most important things, I think, that this nation is facing is that we —- while we must see economic progress, and I think we have had great progress economically and I think the Bush administration hasn't gotten enough credit for that, the jobs are coming back -- we have the lowest unemployment rate in 30 years or so. The economy's booming. But we also have to protect the environment at the same time, and that's what we are doing in California. And I think this is something that this country has to do. We have to show leadership in protecting our environment so that we have a future for our children and grandchildren."
