What did I tell you? The liberals want more and more gov. regulation of our private lives....like with the new infringing 'smoking' laws.
Can't smoke in your own car....
can't smoke in your own home...
can't smoke outside.
and too many American liberals thinking NOTHING of nanny gov. taking over more and more of our lives.
NOW....and with America soon to follow, no doubt the English gov. is not going to ALLOW their citizens to be 'couch potatoes'.
Nope....if you like reading a good book on your own time....too bad.
If you like watching a weekend of sports....too bad.
Get up and exercise right now - per GOVERNMENT ORDER.
Starting at your place of employment.
Not just encouraging people to exercise....not just educating people to the health benefits of exercizing...nope..\
..FORCED by ORDER OF THE UK GOVERNMENT.
==========
Employers TOLD To Help Staff Get Fit
Jo Revill, health editor Sunday December 10, 2006
The Observer
"Forget the sandwich at your desk or a lunchbreak spent lounging in a comfy chair. The government's health advisers will tell people this week how companies must do more to get their staff on their feet in order to combat a nationwide epidemic of unfitness.
"A raft of recommendations from the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (Nice), aimed at making employers do more to end the couch-potato attitudes of workers, will be unveiled on Monday December 11."
"They range from providing bike sheds for those who want to cycle to work to encouraging staff to take the stairs instead of the lift."
<snip>
The guidance, set out as part of a detailed national plan for combating soaring obesity rates, will apply to larger businesses.
Employers are likely to argue that it is up to individuals to manage their own diet and activity, but Nice has concluded that many workers do not have enough free time to engage in sports, and that activity needs to be built into the working day.
The Department of Health recently predicted that there would be a 14 per cent increase in obesity by 2010, which will mean 13 million Britons being classified as obese. Cancer Research UK has estimated that this will lead to 1,500 extra weight-related cancers a year.
Experts will argue that it is not enough for companies simply to provide healthy canteen food or curtail the availability of junk food - they must ensure that there are 'tailored educational programmes' so that employees can be given more accurate information about calorie intake and the importance of a balanced diet.
The detailed guidance even extends to asking workplaces to 'actively promote stair use' by making sure there are proper signposts to the stairs and good decor along the route.
It will also suggest that companies ensure that there are bike sheds and showers.

So much for making your OWN decisions on how you'll spend your OWN EARNED lunch breaks.

try reading the whole article yourself.
questions....not my job to educate you. try doing your own search to gain knowledge of what laws have been/are being changed here in America.
please don't depend on others to just 'hand you' information. you're an adult...try acting like one.
"While the democratic party complains about everything THIS President does to protect our Nation": "What would a Democrat president have done at that point?"
"Apparently, the answer is: Sit back and wait for the next terrorist attack."
You presented the thread and chose what to include in it. What you stated and what you chose to copy from the article not only don't support each other, they aren't even vaguely related.
Quite simply, you have presented no credible evidence to support your thesis. I have no responsibility to do that for you.

Where do you think you are....in a ivy league university of some sort?
Even they would expect you to do your OWN research.
Typical liberal though....everything said must guarantee that in order to PROVE it....a link be provided.
IF you are not aware of how many cities don't allow smoking...etc. outside...that only shows your OWN lack of knowledge.....NOT mine.

posted on December 10, 2006 06:05:30 PM I address what I want to address. If that bothers you....whine to all the lefties here who wont answer ANY questions put to them at all.
I answer more questions put to me that ALL of them put together ever have.
I think we all know that our USSC is not an unbiased court. It's become a POLITICAL court...and why appointments have become such a hot topic. It's NOT like it used to be...where law was just interpreted....now it's 'by popular opinion of the left or the right leaning judges'.
This President has/did worked to get it BACK to just interpreting law....as it was WRITTEN in our constitution....not by some 'living constitition' that changes with popular opinion.
IF I haven't address a question you feel is just so important....I will. What is it?"
----------------------------------------------
In the above, YOU directly stated YOU WOULD answer a question for me.
So I replied with this asking your opinion;
---------------------------------------------
"EVERYTHING is political IN GOVERNMENT Linda, that is a given. The JUDICIARY, as the THIRD BRANCH of our federal government is most assuredly found in the US CONSTITUTION. Whether they do their job correctly or not, it is their job and a check and balance exists, the President nominates and the US Senate must advise and consent. Afterwards, any Justice or Chief Justice can be impeached and removed for cause. The US Supreme Court is still THE FINAL ARBITUR of the US Constitution.
I would like your view on this please;
"Why don't you just tell the whole truth? WHY are religious institutions given tax exempt status, really? Could it be because it is widely known though UNSPOKEN that people would NOT pay those taxes and would rather see their "houses of worship" go down the tubes? BTW, who is paying those taxes that the religious institutions are not? With the US declining in ACTUAL Church attendance, whatever you may want to call your building and the increasing decay of values (your words I believe,) it seems to me that America is speaking loudly and clearly that BY IT'S ACTIONS, IT DOES NOT SUPPORT YOUR POSITION""

You NEVER did answer the question you promised to, will you now please?

I don't see how "encouraging" is forcing.
The employer BENEFITS from healthier employees and the employees benefit, too!.
My company thoughtfully provides showers and dressing rooms for the cyclists and those who walk or work out on their breaks. Employees are allowed to bring their bikes into work to protect them. We have signs "encouraging" safety habits. We have programs provided for smoking cessation and weight loss.
All these things are beneficial and the employees appreciate them.
Only a fool would be against them.

Wait up one minute.
First of all I couldn't get to the end of that forth page because you put that HUGE copy and paste there.
And you weren't willing to give your source. LOL
But won't believe me because you haven't read or experienced living in cities where smoking is NOT allowed in public? LOL LOL LOL
You insult me twice...then want me to answer your question.
How about YOU addressing MINE first?
Have you EVER served in any branch of our Armed Forces?
Are you a support of some communist culture here in America?????
I'm getting a very weird feeling about your political positions, especially after what you said to mingo about this 'change' you're working towards...that must be done slowly.
Want to answer MY questions first? Then I'll answer your last one that I couldn't read on that thread. Because YOU didn't post a link....as you appear to be requiring of me.
Game doesn't work that way, nope....not with me.
"While the democratic party complains about everything THIS President does to protect our Nation": "What would a Democrat president have done at that point?"

Go back to that "long" copy/paste as you call it and look at the very bottom, I PUT THE LINK IN THERE, if it doesn't work, COPY IT INTO YOUR BROWSER. Second, I answered your question about who the author was, a Mr. Steve Mount, quite some time ago.

But I did ask you about service to our Nation....long before you asked me this question.

Linda was a stay at home mother so was out of the work force for the majority of her life so may not be aware that companies in North America have been offering exercise programs 'on company time' for awhile now.
With stress at an all time high some companies have special yoga and meditation rooms. As Mingo said, they have showers and change rooms too and they're starting to offer healthier foods in the cafeterias. With health insurance being so high the companies realize it's a smart move to have healthy employees and by reducing stress it increases productivity.
Just be glad you don't have to work and suffer all these indignities, Linda........ you can stay home and never budge all day while you eat your trans fats and no one will bother you ....... hahahaha

" I'm not clear on what you're saying you BELIEVE will happen with the funding issue.
The President requests necesary funds for the wars from the Congress.
It appears to me you're saying they WON'T give our troops the funding they need?
lol lol lol
I don't think any politican is stupid enough to do that to our troops and EVER expect to be re-elected.
Leaving our troops there, unfunded OR even partially funded...will look REAL bad to the voters. Maybe enough to start talking bad about how the dems showed their true colors...and they have NEVER been concerned about our troops having what they need. It was only lip service, once again.
Nope....they're going to have to find the GUTS to admit defeat for America and bring the troops home.....or continue funding them UNTIL such time they ARE brought home.
You're living in a fantasy world.
Have you ever served in any branch of our military????

Sunday, December 10, 2006
By Ellen Simon, The Associated Press
Outdoor clothing company L.L. Bean, Inc. shuts down its manufacturing line three times a day for mandatory five-minute stretches, designed to prevent the most common injuries the workers suffer.
"It's a safety measure, just as we would ask someone to wear safety glasses if there's a danger of hurting their eyes," said Susan Tufts, the company's employee wellness program manager.
At retailer Replacements Ltd., 250 employees take part in a walking program organized by the company nurse. T-shirt manufacturer American Apparel has 80 loaner bikes, locks and helmets for employees and hosted an employee screening of "Fast Food Nation," a film in which the villain is the meat industry.
Insurance company The Hartford Financial Services Group Inc. is among those using price manipulation in its cafeteria to encourage employees to eat right. It's increasing the prices on fatty foods and using the extra money to fund a subsidy for healthy sandwiches, cut fruit and salads.
I PASTED when you asked me THE FIRST TIME and showed the time. I also pasted when I asked you my question and showed the time. I also copied and pasted again the end of my post that you declared did not have a link, IT DOES.
Now let's be clear about something, you don't COMMAND ME to do anything, that don't work with me.
You won't insult me, berate me or harrass me into any kind of compliance and bending to your will, ever. It is a waste of breath.
I have treated you with respect and given you the basic human dignity that is your RIGHT to expect and I will accept NO LESS FROM YOU, GOT IT?
I have backed up all my posts and my arguements have been logical and factual and not based on emotions. Perhaps that is your problem as yours most certainly have not.
I am in total agreement, you need to go to bed, get some rest and IMPROVE YOUR ATTITUDE CONSIDERABLY.
I have no problem in answering any question that is put to me in at least a civil manner, but I will not be forced. Linda has made an error in judgement if she thinks that will work with me.
I probably need to go to bed as well and relax. LOL Have a pleasant one and I look forward to conversing with you more again.

JustSimpleMe I have virtually given up responding to Linda's posts. She is not interested in other points of view or intelligent discourse. She denigrates anyone who does not agree with her opinions. She posts her opinions as though they were facts and her extrapolations are only logical to her. She tends to SHOUT, especially when presented with facts that shoot down her theories. Anyone who has a different opinion gets one of her favorite epithets: LIBERAL, COMMUNIST, LEFTY OR UNAMERICAN. She spews them out as though she is damning them to he!! Linda tries to be condescending by telling people they can't GRASP the facts. She is like the child who thinks that negative attention is better than none at all. I'll admit, I sometimes can't resist responding to one of her posts, I am as opinionated as anyone and like to make my point, but that is only when I want to have some fun.
I must say, your posts are very interesting and informative. I've enjoyed reading them. Thanks..

JustSimpleMe, I join in on saying that I find your posts informative also.
Linda_K sometimes brings good topics to the table but unfortunately she shows little tolerance for opposing views and has a tendency to label everyone here to fit her agenda.
Most everyone that posts here has started out being very civil to Linda but soon find out they either have to agree with her (or disagree with appropriate and constant sucking up at the same time) in order to continue a discussion without her becoming rude.

Most Americans could use at least a little more exercise. Absolutely nothing wrong with offering good old fashion medical advice. Hell, the government has been doing it for decades.
It is in all Americans interest to be healthier. Besides, who plans to fight terrorists if they are out of shape??? I can see it now... Linda rolling around in a wheel chair hunting Osama carrying an oxygen tank. The true irony is that the Government already requires hundreds of thousands of their employees (military) to be fit. Hmmm. Is that a liberal value?

It's no surprise to me that the liberals here can't see the difference between American companies OFFERING fitness programs that their employees can use or NOT use......and when the 'BIG BROTHER gov. steps in and starts making these requirements that business must start following.
No surprise at all. LOL LOL LOL

now rusty is comparing MURDER to exercise. tsk tsk tsk
Yep...liberals just don't CARE how much control government continues to TAKE control of our lives.
They WANT more and more nanny government not only taking peoples hard earned money....and spending it how THEY want to....rather than letting it be OUR choice.....'cause, after all they don't think we'll handle it correctly LOL LOL
[Social Security]
but now with everyday things too. NO Gov. has the right to tell business that they will start taking responsibility for peoples exercise decisions.
OH...but I'm wrong....too late they alreay have starting do JUST that.
