No one ever mention losing weight may just be the answer to our health problem.
So where do we start>
I run 40 minutes on a machine every night followed by 30 minutes rowing on another machine, and I have not lost an ounce?

Exercise is only part of a weight loss program. You must reduce your food intake as well or at least change the kinds of food you are consuming. You body has to burn up more calories than it is taking in.
Another thought, don't just pay attention to your scales. If you are doing that kind of exercise consistently and have been doing so for even a few weeks, have you noticed any body changes? Loss of fat, more muscle, better tone? Are you wearing smaller size clothing? Lots to consider here.

I've read that approx. 2/3 of Americans are obese....so yes, it would attribute to many of our current health issues.
But I am totally against ANY government intervention to FORCE people to make changes. I think with education and health reminders Americans will decide for themselves if it's important to them or not.
We do consume too much for the amount of exercize we get. But it doesn't have to be at gyms...we can just become more active in our daily lives.
Matter of fact....I think I read on the Drudge report that some study said Americans spend like 10 hours a day being pretty much sedentary..either watching TV, being on the internet, reading, etc. So that shows WHY so many are gaining weight.

Exercising can cause your apetite to go up, so you'll eat more. The amount you're burning through exercise may not be enough to burn off that excess food. Fewer calories is the key and more physical work. This country eats like farmers and hardly anybody works as hard. In the last 10 years or so we began getting an influx of city folks buying property and moving into this area. Most of their kids are fat. They don't have any chores after school, and go home and sit in front of a TV or video game, usually eating. The ranch kids who've grown up around here are up before breakfast with chores and back home after school with more chores. The probably eat twice as much as the towny kids but virtually none of them are fat, many are downright skinny.
I think it's time those who are gravidly obese began paying their own freight. They are costing all of us money in much the same way smokers are, through increased health care costs and insurance premiums, not to mention the simple fact of having to deal with their bulk on airplanes and other cramped places. Yeah, it costs less to get insurance if you're not fat and don't smoke, but I'd like to see those percentages increased some in favor of those who choose NOT to smoke and don't overeat.

Everyone does something that 'causes' our premiums to go up. lol
It's just funny how some are willing to list those they want stopped...but not other issues that ALSO cause our insurance to be increased.

JustSimpleMe you hit the nail on the head with ""You body has to burn up more calories than it is taking in.""
It's as simple as that. Fancy diets just don't work.
And scales are the enemy!!! They should never be used, there's no reason.
Here's the helpful hint that keeps me thin:
If my pants get tight...I DON'T BUY BIGGER PANTS! I stop eating so much....works every time.
I'm happy I live in America where no one has ever tried to force me to change my habits.

I usually eat something before I work out, where do you think I get my energy to workout for 80 minutes?
But exercise does not make you want to eat more afterwards, the serotonin level goes up after you exercise and help to curb the appetite.
My problem is that when I am not exercising,I am either sleeping or just peddle around the house, household chores dont burn much calories, neither is sitting in front of the PC.

You don't get your energy from what you just consumed, as it takes hours for that food to process through your digestion system.
It's real simple, if your not losing weight, your eating too much of the wrong foods.
Try eating 1000 calories a day, STRICTLY and see if you don't get better results, bet you will.

But there's another component here. Muscle weighs more than fat! At Curves, where I go faithfully, they tell us to look at inches lost, not particularly the weight. Since starting at Curves a while ago, my weight has dropped only 10 pounds, but I've gone down one or two clothing sizes. AND . . . I'm stronger. My arm and leg muscles can handle more.
