Is it just me or have they jacked up the sound on the commercials? I swear, on ABC and NBC especially, every time a commercial comes on it is blasting.. I have to go and turn the sound down...then when the program resumes..I have to turn it back up again to hear it.. have you noticed this lately?

It's always seemed like that to me. Tivo is your friend.

I never noticed it so much before the Holiday commercials appeared.. I know there is an adjustment on my TV somewhere to equalize the sound.. I just haven't found it on the new set yet.. what a PITA that is though..

I am 85% pure oops,I mean sure that lots of years ago the FCC made a law saying commercials can't be louder than the program.
Am I right about that does anyone else remember that law?

I too hate those loud commercials. Years ago there was a very suspect "study" that claimed the commercials weren't any louder than the shows, just that the shows were more modulated, whereas the commercials are a bit steady in their modulation. Or something. That's pure baloney, I say.

It is definately louder on commercials, I have to turn then down too and then can't hear the show when it comes back on. It is I notice especially bad on the History channels I get, and also that way on all or most of the HD channels too. I am on Dish and I thought maybe it was just that but I don't think it is just that. Fact is some commercials blast you out.

Well, I'm REALLY old and remember when commercials were 30 seconds to a minute long!!!! Now , a half hour show is 15 minutes and the commercials are 15 minutes. I seldom watch TV but always have a book to read during the breaks, or wash dishes, or build a new house.....

Turn down your hearing aid, Maggie.

Mingotree: Me too! I keep catalogs on the sofa to look at during the commercial breaks, or I jump up and start supper, do a little straightening in another room, etc. I've been amazed at how much I can get done in the 2.5 - 3 minutes of commercials.
I'd heard long ago that they did jack up the sound for them since so many people leave the room to get snacks and such.
The one blessing of the louder commercials is that I can hear when they're over and can go back into the room for the show I'm watching, LOL.

you should get a Tivo.When I watched "24"
there would be 5 minutes of adds on.So what I did was watch it the next morning on my Tivo. When the adds came on,I put put the Tivo in fast forward and it went thru the 5 minutes of commericals in 3 seconds.

The only shows we watch together are the Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert shows, 4 nights a week. We don't have TiVo; we tape those shows, watch them the next evening, and zip through the commercials, which take up 15 - 17 minutes of the hour!

And, I do the same as the rest of you, wash the pots and pans, fix a snack, let the dog out, bathroom break.. during commercials and still get back before they are over.. sheesh..
Classy, I've just got my dvd player hooked up to my TV..so don't talk to me about any other device to hook up..we've got the new plasma TV on a wall and it is major work getting it off and back up again to attach anything..ugh.

and.. we have to take it off of the lock system to get to the back of it to plug any new wires into it..and I'm guessing a Tivo has to have some wires to connect to it..right?
