Democrats pass people's agenda in first 100 hours of Congress!

Reps. Bachmann, Kline vote against every proposal

Yesterday, new Reps. Keith Ellison and Tim Walz joined their colleagues in the Democratic Congress in completing their 100-hours agenda and fulfilling their promise to the American people. This past election, Democrats ran on an agenda of change, promising to clean up the Republican culture of corruption and provide relief for hard-working Americans.

In the first 100 hours of the new Congress, Democrats passed ethics reform to put an end to the pay-to-play culture of Washington that included free gifts and trips from lobbyists. Democrats voted to increase the federal minimum wage for the first time in 10 years, enacted the 9-11 commission's recommendations to make our nation safer here at home and abroad, voted to expand stem-cell research, allowed government to negotiate prices with prescription-drug companies, cut student-loan interest rates in half and eliminated billions in subsidies for big-oil companies.

Reps. John Kline and Michele Bachmann were among the Republican congressmembers who voted against every single one of the bills presented in the first 100 hours of the 110th Congress.

Next week, President Bush will give his seventh State of the Union address in an attempt to dress up his failed policies of the past. While President Bush and Republicans continue to offer more of the same, Democrats have acted fast – accomplishing more in the first month than the Republican Congress did in the last two years.

"If these first 100 hours are a true indication of how effective the Democratic Congress will be at passing legislation important to Minnesotans, then we are off to an excellent start," Minnesota DFL Chair Brian Melendez said. "Our newly elected Representatives, Keith Ellison and Tim Walz, are already hard at work to ensure that Minnesotans’ interests are their first priority. It’s a disappointment and a shame that Republicans John Kline and Michele Bachmann chose to oppose every single one of the bills proposed. Luckily, their votes were not needed to pass these important measures. We now call on Senator Norm Coleman and President Bush to get behind the people's agenda and to support these bipartisan bills that work for all Americans."

Sen. Klobuchar calls for end to “giveaways” to oil and gas companies.

“Sen. Amy Klobuchar called Wednesday for Congress to overturn a 1995 law that allows oil and gas companies to avoid payments on the sale of oil and gas produced on federal lands.

Klobuchar, who made the issue a prominent part of her campaign, said exempting companies from having to pay royalties is "nothing more than straight giveaways."

Klobuchar, a member of the Joint Economic Committee, joined Sens. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., and Maria Cantwell, D-Wash., at a news conference on the release of a committee report, which indicates that the incentive program for offshore oil and gas drilling could cost taxpayers as much as $80 billion without producing benefits, such as more jobs or a drop in gas prices at the pump.

The government collects royalties from the sale of oil and gas produced on federal lands. But in 1995 when oil prices dropped, Congress exempted companies from paying certain royalties to encourage more domestic production of energy.

Given today's economy and oil company profits, the senators contend that there's no reason to continue the program.”

UH......hellen's bringing up desquirrel's ass. tsk tsk tsk Thought she's said she's above all that gutter talk. Guess not. tsk tsk tsk
=================

And now desquirrel....you KNOW they don't want to bring up the FACT that most of this will NOT get passed the Senate...where two are already stuck...and the President has said he'd veto another couple of them.

They live in some utopia where if the House does anything....they want to see that as 'something they've accomplished'.

Doesn't matter that the Senate ALSO has to approve it...then they have to go through a committee to reconcile the House and Senate differences....THEN we have to see if our CIC who they dislike so very very much...IS willing to sign the bill.

You're bursting their 'pretend' bubble, now.

The Democrats are doing what they said they would do....just because the pres is going to be an obstructionist and ignore the will of the people doesn't mean the DEMOCRATS have failed the people of America.....

The President won't be an "obstructionist" because most of this stuff won't make it out of Congress. It is amazing how you people do not know how your own gov works.

This is all a dog & pony show for morons. Real legislation happens in Congress not in the newspapers.

You're partly right ...the REPUBLICANS in the Senate will be the first obstructionists and if they can't do the job...the goofyass president will do it

Hillary IS part of the Democratic iceberg that's been sinking the Republican Titanic!

Now you may get my references to the neocons in here trying to "re-arrange the deck chairs" to save their sinking ship!
In other words their silly "look how bad these Democrats are" nit picky meaningless posts.
