The Democrat Senate passes highest tax hike in history. This bill would make Minnesota the highest taxed state in the country, up from 10th overall in the nation.
The Minnesota Senate passed a measure today that raises income taxes on the Minnesotans and invests millions in education programs even though the state has a multi-billion dollar surplus which will be used for K-12 education programs.
The measure passed 35-29. Seven Senate DFLers voted against the measure. No Senate Republicans voted for it.
In the next two years, the measure would grant K-12 schools nearly $300 million more than in the current two-year budget, the state's colleges and universities would get $93 million and early childhood programs would get $54 million, which is already lower than the budget proposal Govenor Tim Palenty using the surplus money.
Couples earning $250,000 or more per year and individuals earning $141,2500 a year would pay a new tax rate of 9.7 percent on their income. That would bring in almost a $1 billion into the state coffers.
Right now, couples earning $102,030 or more per year and individuals earning $69,990 or more pay a 7.85 percent tax rate on their incomes.
If the measure reaches Gov. Tim Pawlenty's desk, it would face a near-certain veto.
At least we have a Govenor with brains. This bill has a snowballs' chance in hell of being signed.

Hey Stone head,
Didn't you know we Democrats are coming after your kind and your money. Its time your kind starts helping your fellow Americans with programs for better schools and health insurance.
Try being a caring American for once not a self serving, selfish a$$hole.
You new-cons have on one to blame but yourselves. You voted for the fools that screwed up America so bad that they got flushed out of power.
Now for the next few years enjoy being a caring American that helps the less fortunate Americans with your money.
THANKS FOR YOUR VOTE STONE. BUSHY AND HIS GANG ARE THE BEST RECRUITERS THE DEMOCRATS EVER HAD.

Brains without education is very limiting.
Yup, those repugs just hate spending money on POSITIVE things like education.
A good education raises your earning capabilities....the more people earn the stronger the country....the less likely they'll be to need PUBLIC assistance.
Those who hate paying taxes are anti-American.
Repugs are always looking for a Utopia where the good life appears like magic.

Yep....that's what they do best, Stonecold.
Even though they're already running a surplus....that doesn't matter to liberals. They can never take enough from the hard working public to be satisfied. NEVER.
They can always find an excuse to tax and spend it on something. Doesn't matter to them that many Americans are already struggling as THEY continue to point out. lol Make them pay MORE....
"While the democratic party complains about everything THIS President does to protect our Nation": "What would a Democrat president have done at that point?"
"Apparently, the answer is: Sit back and wait for the next terrorist attack."

Well cheer up, linduh, in the town where you were growing up and going to school I bet the taxes were REALLLLLYYYY LOW!
I bet your parents were hardly taxed at all for education....
But, ya know , if they'd would've spent a few bucks they could've at least bought a dictionary for the whole school to share

Ha! Bigpeepa if linduh did reply to a direct question with a direct answer ...it's a first !
Here's something she missed during her shock treatments:
Myth No.2. The public favors Republicans on the issues of taxes and fiscal responsibility.
Several media figures -- including Halperin, Matthews, and MSNBC chief White House correspondent Norah O'Donnell -- have baselessly asserted that the issue of "taxes" is one of Republicans' current strengths. But as Media Matters has noted, recent polling shows that more Americans trust Democrats than Republicans to handle the issue of taxes. For example, the most recent Pew Research Center for the People and the Press poll on the subject, from October 22, showed a 40 percent-to-32 percent Democratic advantage on the issue. And according to an October 26-27 Newsweek poll, Americans also trust Democrats over Republicans to handle "federal spending and the deficit" by a 16-point margin, 47 percent to 31 percent.

It's just like bigdopa and mingopig to be clueless.
As stated, our overwhelming surplus, (solely achived by Repubs by the way) is going to go to education. The amount going to education is already higher than the proposed tax and spend bill approved by the Demomorons. So try and defend the Demomorons for trying to raise taxes and then CUT funding for education.
The govenor didn't raise taxes after taking a defict over from the Demomrons, and he sure isn't going to raise taxes while we have a 2 billion surplus.
