say a man and a woman are just friends and they go grocery shopping together.
They shared one shopping cart and then when it comes time to check out-
does the woman expect the man to pay for hers>
Does the man think he should pay for hers ??
Does the man feel offended if the woman goes ahead and pay for hers?
Does the woman feel offended if the man does not pay for hers?

Did this happen to you???

Those are silly questions...why would anyone pay for someone else's groceries?

Why would they share a cart????

Yes,it happens to me.
It seems certain men (older man?) wants to pay ,why??
On hindsight,I should have thrown everything in sight into the cart and let him pay!

Why do you share a cart? To get them to pay ?

They pay so they can eventually have sex with you...what did you think???!!

Sex for food in America?

Tell him that you may consider giving him the pleasure of your lovely presence when the cart becomes French cuisine and the location is an elegant restaurant

In the meantime, tell him to take his grocery cart and shove it.

Neither of us expects to buy much so why not just cruise around with one cart?It is a new supermarket with lots of interesting items you dont find in other supermarkets say Kroeger.
But good insight,no more sharing cart from now on!

Dear dumb classic, can you read the title of this thread? Didn't think so.....

Are your eyes going bad in your extreme old age ?

There is nothing wrong with sharing a cart. I do it all the time. At the register I take my purchases out and pay for them...then my friend does the same.

Maybe he's just being kind....with no expectations at all.

If his buying your groceries makes you feel uncomfortable....tell him...and let him know you appreciate the offer anyway.

hwahwa-do what Helen does-pick out 3 or 4 frozen french dinners, put them in the cart and wheel it to the nearest Taco Bell.

Sorry,it should be 'man & woman'.
Once I took a male friend of mine to COSTCO(he is not a member) and I said to him before checkout,I will pay and then he can pay me back.
Neither of us bought much.
Well,at the checkout,he insisted on paying,I sensed he just does not want all the people around him thinking he cant afford to pay.
I bought a bag of apples and he did not want my money so I came home with a bag of free apples.
As for sex for food?at his age he would be charged with assault using a dead weapon!

Maybe if the guy I were dating (God forbid I'd ever be in that situatino again) had requested a special, expensive meal, I'd expect him to pay for the ingredients.

Otherwise, never.

Ummmm. Well. Yes, of course a meal out would be best. But I've been known to cook a good one!

I was trying to think under what circumstances I'd expect the guy to pay or at least help out.

RoAD,
You mean you cook,he chow down and you present him a bill?
Do you accept MC/VISA or AMEX only?
There are some women who will entertain sailors in their home with home cook meal ,piano music and ??
A good homecook meal is hard to find these days,so is a good woman.

Every one!

Does he expect FREE food and service when he goes to a restaurant?

IF he thinks you should cook for him HE should pay for the food and clean the entire mess up when you're done... and kiss your butt for doing it!

If he balks, tell him he may leave immediately without leaving a tip.

If you don't render him a service you don't get a tip. IF you were crazy enough to cook him a meal at HIS request then you should hold out a very large tip tray with the bill. It's rude to ask for free meals!!!!

Oh , you young whippersnappers!

First: she better know him REAL well.

Second: An invitation is different than a request.
A request for a free meal is rude and is best ignored.

An invitation for a meal means the host buys the groceries, fixes the meal, does the clean up....like anyone inviting anyone over for a meal.

Haha! Typical "old fart" answer.
We were discussing a social dating situation. I'm sure you wouldn't understand "dating" because for anyone besides you it involves more than making sure you got 20 bucks in your pocket.

As to your statement....did you bore your "dates" into having sex just to shut you up ?

BTW, Welfare for AMERICANS does not cost 500 BILLION dollars.

Some men crave homecook meals, some have more than meal on their mind, sometimes it is a case of reciprocality,if he has treated the woman many times in restaurants, why not find out if she can cook?
Once there is this eligible bachelor whos will someday inherit his father's business,he is interested in a woman who has integrity.
After dating her several times ,taking her to fancy restaurants and parties,he invited himself and 2 more couples to dine at her home!!That makes it a dinner party of 6,which is not an easy task for a single woman.
She took the day off from work, washed her hair ,cleaned her apt and barely have enough energy left to buy a few large cans of Boyardi sphagetti with meat balls and make salad and pudding from Jello pack.
Every one shows up and were asked to go to the kitchen stove to help themselves with the sphagetti and you can see the empty cans in the trash can nearby.
All went well that night, but he decided he is not going to marry her!
So,I cant emphasize enough the importance of a home cook meal.
