Did anyone watch the interview last nite on PBS -they interviewed a guy from National Geographic on the mass migration out of some area of Sudan,1.3 million animals- gazelles, zebra, elephants and lions!
Why are they migrating and do they know something we dont know??

Since you mention Ida Amin,my friend and I have disagreement on what we saw in the movie,The Last King of Scotland-
(1) after they cut off the limbs and head of his third wife, did they sew her arms back as 'legs'?
I thought what looks like bloody stitches,my friend said no.
(2) When Ida Amin asked the good doctor that they found her clitoris growing in her throat, did they plant it there after they killed her or is this a natural phenomena?

Prof,
I see you have not seen the movie yet,it is very good movie,he really earn that oscar.
Have you seen Richard Harris in ' A man named Horse'?
There is a similar scene in The last King of Scotland where they hang the good doctor with 2 hooks dug into his chest muscle.

Yes they did, this is where Randy Newman got the idea for that song "short people"

This is also true, this is where B.J.Thomas came up with the song "hooked on a feeling"

Classic,
you are serious about her arm being sewn back on as her leg??
I have to freeze the screen several times to see what is going on?why do they bother to do that, they dont look like they aspire to become good tailor??
and what is the message of arms becoming legs?

Ida Amin did this so no one could argue with his decisions as they wouldnt have a leg to stand on..

hwahwa, I've seen A Man Called Horse. In the movie, he participated voluntarily in a Plains indian Sun Dance ceremony, which is still performed. I'm not sure how that compares to a movie about Idi Amin, and what sounds like torture rather than religious observance. Also, I'm unlikely to find out as I probably won't see it.

Prof,
I thought the US govt banned that ritual long ago!
In the movie,Ida Amin said to the young Scottish doctor who committed adultery with his third wife, that back in his village ,a young man who steals from an older man would be punished by being hanged on a tree with 2 hooks dug into his chest, and it takes days for the evil spirit to emerge, sometimes up to 3 days.
I often wonder if there is an ancient civilisation(s) say 30,000 years ago where most of our ancestors come from, ever wonder why some of the practice ,legends etc are similar?
There is always a God or Gods and they arrive in a bird from the sky, gods seldom arrive in a boat except the Spaniards, and no God ever come out from under ground .
God(s) are always superior (I guess if they are dumb, they aint worth remembering),technologically more advanced and dont hang around too long, they go back to where they come from the same way they came(in a bird !)
Back in the 1980s,Prince Philip of Britain visited some natives on an island which is part of Britain off the coast of Australia, the locals are so impressed, after he left, they bought all the fancy electric gadgets such as TV set,washer/dryer/VHS machine, phone, fridge ,fax, etc and piled them in a big hut which serve as the community hall and hope for his return.
But there is a problem-there is no electricty on the island.

The sun dance was banned for many years but is no longer. I have been to two ceremonies, both in Montana.

Most of the major world religions believe in a superior god or gods, but there are indigenous beliefs all over the world whose gods or spirits or whatever you want to call them are different from humans, but not necessarily seen as superior.

So,what are they like in Montana?
I saw the narratives on the movie-The last King of Scotland and the real Idi Amin and his second wife Kay.
She was rumored to have committed adultery with a man,not a white man and her body was found cut up into pieces in the trunk of a car.
They sewn her body up so they can bury her.

They are very much like what you saw in A Man Called Horse, complete with the chest and arm piercings and the eagle bone whistles. The big difference is there are lots of non native onlookers. Not so bad in themselves, except for the new-age wierdos who do their own little make-believe ceremonies at the same time. An affront if I ever saw one.

It was years ago when I saw this movie by Richard Harris.
How does a man manage to stay up there supported by his chest muscle,or do they penetrate his chest bones??
wont the flesh just tear ??
They say that the spirit does not like surprises and unpleasant incidents and will leave, you see some cases of car accidents where the physical body may be alive but the spirit jolted and left the scene, hovering up in the air looking at all the commotions.
In this case of hanging by eagle claws or meat hook for days,I wonder if the spirit leaves?
you know what I am talking about, right?
The spirit which leaves after we die!

The muscle is pierced and the participant is standing on the ground, his full weight is only momentarily placed on the attachment, but it normally holds just fine. As far as spirits leaving bodies and such like I would not presume to know. The only time my spirit ever left my body was when I saw Jessica Alba in a restaurant in Tucson. I had to reel that sucker back in fast before the missus saw it floatin' around out there.

If it is momentarily attached, then it is really a show, not the real thing!
Come to think of it,back in the old days, the American Indians are small, back in old days, every one is smaller,so hanging a 120 lbs man on some claws is doable.
I hope they sanitise the claws before they use them

I didn't say it was momentarily attached, I said the participant's full weight is only momentarily placed on the attachment as he is standing on the ground, not being hung up in the air. Let's pierce your chest muscles with bone awls attached to leather thongs that are hanging from a tall pole and have you lean back for hours and stare at the sun. Then we'll ask you if it's only "for show".

I am confused,so he was standing on the ground, but did he eventually get lifted in the air,and if so,how long?
The only experience I can relate to is-
when I want to roast a chicken,I will hang it dry in an airy place with a wire coathanger turned into a hook and poke the end into the flesh of the chicken and hang it up over the sink over night.
Or if I want to show mercy,I will place the 2 arms of the hanger into the cavity of the chicken and let them expand,in that way, there is no need to pierce any flesh.

I don't remember the movie that well. He may have been lifted into the air but I doubt it. That doesn't happen in modern sun dances and I don't recall that it happened historically either.

Hanging a grocery store chicken is a good idea, they're so watery and bland, that might make them actually taste like something. You could also try putting it on the roof for a few hours on a sunny day....

Thats an idea I may try, putting it over some bricks in my backyard patio.
In the movie,he was actually lifted up toward the ceiling for days.
In the movie 'The Last King of Scotland' the good doctor was kept in the air for at least a day!

I was kidding about the chicken in the sun. Very bad idea. Salmonella, poop till you die. Don't do it.
