And the majority of Americans could have cared less.

Skeptical of Performers’ Motives, Public Tunes Out Live Earth Event
Sunday, July 08, 2007

The Live Earth concert promoted by former Vice President Al Gore received plenty of media coverage and hype, but most Americans tuned out. Just 22% said they followed news stories about the concert Somewhat or Very Closely. Seventy-five percent (75%) did not follow coverage of the event.

By way of comparison, eight-in-ten voters routinely said they were following news coverage of the recent Senate debate over immigration. Fifty-four percent (54%) said they followed news coverage of the President’s decision to commute Scooter Libby’s sentence.

Skepticism about the participants may have been a factor in creating this low level of interest. Most Americans (52%) believe the performers take part in such events because it is good for their image. Only 24% say the celebrities really believe in the cause while another 24% are not sure. One rock star who apparently shared that view is Matt Bellamy of the band Muse. Earlier in the week, he jokingly referred to Live Earth as "private jets for climate change."

Only 34% believe that events like Live Earth actually help the cause they are intended to serve. Forty-one percent (41%) disagree. Those figures include 10% who believe the events are Very Helpful and 20% who say they are Not at All Helfpul. Adding to the skepticism, an earlier survey found that just 24% of Americans consider Al Gore an expert on Global Warming.

Given a choice of four major issues before the United States today, 36% named the war in Iraq as most important. Twenty-five percent (25%) named immigration, 20% selected the economy and only 12% thought Global Warming was the top issue.

Among political conservatives, Iraq (36%) and immigration (33%) were far and away the top issues. Only 6% named Global Warming.

Among liberals, 44% named Iraq as the top issue followed by the economy (27%), Global Warming (16%) and immigration (12%).

Earlier surveys show the public is divided as to the cause of Global Warming.

Slightly under half (46%) believe that Global Warming is caused primarily by human activities. A roughly equal number believe warming is either the result of long-term planetary trends (35%) of some other cause (8%). Eleven percent (11%) are not sure.

Live Earth: Last in the Ratings
Posted by Pam Meister on July 9, 2007 - 16:22.

It seems not even Al Gore and his stable of celebrity talent could keep Live Earth at the top of the ratings this past weekend. Greg Pollowitz from The Corner has the breakdown from Nielsen Media Research:

Saturday 7/07/07
Note: The following results are based on the fast affiliate ratings (Live Plus Same Day data).

Household Rating/Share
CBS: 3.8/ 8, Fox: 3.0/ 6, ABC: 2.1/ 4, NBC: 1.8/ 4

-Total Viewers:
CBS: 5.21 million, Fox: 4.60, ABC: 3.42, NBC: 2.75

-Adults 18-49:
Fox: 1.5 rating/6 share, ABC and CBS: 1.1/ 4 each, NBC: 0.9/ 3

That's right; NBC had a total of 2.75 million viewers for their three-hour airing of the Live Earth concerts. As a small consolation, they had more viewers than this spot in Brisbane, Australia, where a large outdoor screen had been set up for the anticipated throng.

Perhaps it's just as well for NBC Universal that it donated, among eight of its stations (broadcast and cable) the 75 hours of airtime for the Live Earth extravaganza. Advertisers on NBC last Saturday night certainly wouldn't have been too pleased with the return on their investment.

No, all he "proved " is what is mentioned in the C&Ps.

"Seventy-five percent (75%) did not follow COVERAGE of the event."

SO? Ya don't wanna watch the hype for a concert... doesn't mean you don't believe in global warming ....

How could you think that ????????

There is NO logic to that whatsoever.

SO most people think Iraq is more important than global warming...that's smart, Iraq is an IMMEDIATE threat to SO MANY and bushit's biggest disaster (among many).

And that hardly PROVES they don't believe in or care about global warming....what a stretch !!!

I didn't pay any attention to the concerts at all, and wouldn't attend one....doesn't mean I don't believe there's a horrible pollution problems and global warming...I do I just don't care about rock concerts.....

Try again guys...that one was WEAK

Maybe there is logic in the facts that were posted:

My quote: "No, he proved that most people don't believe it or don't care."

That still stands, also so does your reading comprehension problem.
