Do men hold up better than women?I mean mental agility,alertness and physical strength ?
Take a 72 years old man versus a 72 years old woman?

just men and women in general,single man,single woman!
It seems women go downhill faster??mentally and physically,and consequently emotionally when they do not fare well mentally and physically.
My 73 years old neighbor who was upset she cant go to Walgreen has a PHD in English and was one time the dean of English of a small college now refer to the micro wave oven as something which starts with a M,the VCR machine as something which starts with a V,her best friend 's husband as what's his name?her landlady of many years as that Mrs.What's her name?
She gets a Xmas card from me every year but last year she wrote back and asked-who are you,it is gratifying to know someone who knows I am a PHD but please write back and identify yourself.
But she does remember where her money is and never allow herself to run low on toilet paper!

gap is closing,since more women work and experience stress,plus childbirth and housework,they are not living longer than men.
Breast cancer is often a round trip ticket to hell and back!

And the life insurance rates also use the fact that women live longer to reduce their cost of insurance - compared to men of the same age. Also, retirement accounts have longer rates of life listed for women.

We're senior citizens, living in a resort community that has many other seniors. The women here seem to hold up better than the men. Many couples who have to seek assisted living by moving away do so because the man is incapacitated.
I know this is generalizing, though. But actuarial tables still bear out that women live longer than men.
With all our potential for physical problems from puberty on, we seem to take a lot of medical problems more in stride. And it's been proven that when women are widowed, they simply carry on the lives they've always lived--housework, cooking, friendship, etc. Men who are widowers seem to lose their zest for life, and of course most of them aren't used to the house, the food, all that tending, and they need help.
HOWEVER--men look better, longer; facial musculature holds up for them better, as a rule.

Could it be in your generation,the women still have the luxury of being a full time homemaker while men work and take all the stress from bringing home the bacon?
These days many women are mother,wife,homemaker as well as holding down a job full time.
Men hold up better as they have more testorene(I am probably spelling it wrong),it gives them the muscle tone and stamina.
It semes men retain their mental agiliity better than women,just my observation.
