The folks organizing this Saturday's big antiwar protest in Washington think they've created a whole new protest experience:
(CNSNews.com) - Organizers of an anti-war protest scheduled for Sept. 15 said Wednesday that the demonstration will be "unlike any other" as activists gather to demand an immediate end to the war.
The protest, organized by Act Now to Stop War and End Racism (ANSWER), begins with a rally near the White House, continues with a march to the U.S. Capitol, and concludes with a "die-in" that organizers estimate will involve approximately 1,000 people lying down near the Capitol in a symbolic effort to represent dead U.S. soldiers and dead Iraqis.
Brian Becker, ANSWER's national coordinator, told reporters at a news conference Wednesday that the demonstration "will be unlike any other anti-war protest in recent years because it will culminate in a massive civil disobedience," referring to the "die-in."
Is this Becker guy 8 years old? Everything he describes as "unlike any other" was done to death (pun intended) during the 60's. There's nothing new about this. Same techniques, different bozos.
And this is good news for bloggers everywhere:
Cindy Sheehan -- the Gold Star mother whose son, Army Spec. Casey Sheehan, was killed in Iraq -- has come out of anti-war movement "retirement" to participate in the protest.
She is also challenging House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) for her seat in the House of Representatives in the 2008 election because of Pelosi's failure to bring an end to the war.
"If the rest of America heard about it," Sheehan said of the protest efforts scheduled for the weekend, "it might really start a revolution."
Sorry, Mamma Moonbat, all it will do is gum up traffic in Washington for a day. Long term effects: nil.

What are you talking about? You really do have a reading problem. Where did I say they were right wing? You have misread the whole post. What I said was they are a very small group of fringe fanatics who do not represent Americans who are against the war and/or liberals. Linda, May I remind you that this is America and we have been protesting since the Boston Tea Party. It is the American way. Unions protest, politcal groups protest, even the taxi drivers in New York City protested against having GPS's in their cabs. YOU think protesting is un-American, but it is just the opposite. I do not support any group which defaces property or injures anyone. I did not think that ad about General Petraeus was a particularly smart move and probably backfired on them. By the way, I will believe the Times gave them a discount when I see proof and not rumors on the blogs. I have read so many conservative (just being kind) blogs and so many differing amounts--$65,000, $70,000, 62,000, that it resembles a rumor and not fact.
By the way, I see very few whackos on that list, but I do see Gold Star Parents Against Iraq, Iraq Veterans Against the War, Ramsey Clark....

The In-Kindest Cut
By now everyone knows that the New York Times published a full-page ad Monday from the MoveOn.org political action committee attacking Gen. David Petraeus in McCarthyite terms. Now the New York Post has confirmed what blogger Bob Owens suspected. Reports the Post:
A spokesman for MoveOn.org confirmed to The Post that the liberal activist group had paid only $65,000 for the ad. . . .
A Post reporter who called the Times advertising department yesterday without identifying himself was quoted a price of $167,000 for a full-page black-and-white ad on a Monday.
[Times PR director Abbe] Serphos declined to confirm the price and refused to offer any inkling for why the paper would give MoveOn.org such a discounted price.
The Times advertising rate card (see page 5) lists a full-page weekday political ad as costing $167,000 and change. An unidentified "Republican aide on Capitol Hill" quipped that MoveOn got the "family discount." But this got us to wondering: Would that be legal?
We consulted the Federal Elections Commission's Campaign Guide for Corporations and Labor Organizations, updated in January, and here's what it has to say about in-kind contributions (see page 14):
Services (such as advertising, printing or consulting) are valued at the prevailing commercial rate at the time the services are rendered (i.e., the amount that was paid or would have been paid for the services).
Discounts are valued at the amount discounted (i.e., the difference between the usual and normal charge and the amount paid by the committee).
If a company sells an ad worth $167,000 for $65,000, then, that would be an in-kind contribution of $102,000. Corporate contributions to PACs are illegal under the campaign finance laws the Times itself has long championed: "Corporations and labor organizations are prohibited from making contributions in connection with federal elections," according to the FEC. (A corporation may set up and administer a "separate segregated fund," or a corporate PAC, which receives contributions from people associated with the company, but it may not contribute to its own SSF or any other federally registered PAC.)
There may be an explanation here that does not implicate campaign finance laws. Perhaps the "prevailing commercial rate" for an ad in the Times is lower than that in the rate card; maybe such deep "discounts" are routine and thus not really discounts for the FEC's purposes. In either case, we can understand why the Times's spokesmen are not eager to discuss the matter.

I certainly can't be the only one who continues to see OUR ENEMIES often make statements that are VERY, very similar to the statements our liberals in this country make.
I can read statements from those like the nut case who leads Iran, Syria, etc....and the liberals here sound so much like them.
