JOHN EDWARDS
Edwards: 'Pretty Soon We’re Not Going to Have a Young African-American Male Population in America.'
Asked about what he could do about "inner-city kids partaking in violence" at the MTV/MySpace Forum yesterday, Democratic candidate John Edwards offered an apocalyptic prediction for young black males:
“We cannot build enough prisons to solve this problem. And the idea that we can keep incarcerating and keep incarcerating — pretty soon we’re not going to have a young African-American male population in America. They’re all going to be in prison or dead. One of the two.”
====
Hyperbole much? Despite popular misperception and those who find it a convenient talking point to illustrate inescapable racism, there are more young African-American men in college than in prison. In 2005, according to the Census Bureau, there were 864,000 black men in college. According to Justice Department statistics, there were 802,000 in federal and state prisons and jails; between the ages of 18 and 24, however, black men in college outnumber those incarcerated by 4 to 1. 09/28 02:32 PM [a posted opinion]

THEN then maybe more leaders in the black community had better be speaking out TO the same community about how to prevent this from happening.
As things are now, everytime an intelligent black man speaks out about what they see as the reasons the black community struggles to better itself, on the whole, they're SLAMMED by other blacks who appear to want to silence them. SLAMMED by liberals who want to 'keep them down - DEPENDENT on society' - and who call THEM names for speaking out about how THEY see the black community can pull itself out.
Intelligent leaders in the black community like Juan Williams/Bill Cosby/etc who can SEE why things are the way they are....and it has little to do with the color of their skin....but rather the life choices they're making and need to CHANGE....QUICKLY.

This, on the Other Hand, Does Sound a Bit Racist
The lovely and talented John Edwards recently participated in an MTV forum in which a young lady asked him what he would do about inner-city violence. Before listing a predictable menu of liberal policies, he made this eyebrow-raising comment:
We start with the president of the United States saying to America, "We cannot build enough prisons to solve this problem." And the idea that we're just going to keep incarcerating, keep incarcerating--pretty soon, we're not going to have a young African-American male population in America. They're all going to be in prison--or dead, one of the two.
Does Edwards really mean that all young male blacks are criminals? Or is the idea that the purpose of the criminal justice system as currently constituted is to imprison young black men regardless of guilt?
Either view is plainly false. The former would be one of the most racist statements uttered by a major American politician in the past 40 years; the latter, one of the most irresponsibly demagogic.

Another self-made, successful black man who acknowledges that the problems in the black community won't be 'solved' by government intervention...but rather will come from within the black community itself. By making changes themselves.
Some might also consider HIM to be a racist, I don't. I fully agree with many of the black men/leaders in the black community that see the TRUTH of what's causing the problems in the black community.
It's NOT caused by whites, oppression or any other nonsense. THEY need to change to make things better for themselves.

"""It's NOT caused by whites, oppression or any other nonsense. THEY need to change to make things better for themselves."""
Another racist blanket statement by linduhKKK, who refers to oppression as "nonsense".
Now let's apply this:
""THEY need to change to make things better for themselves."""
to IRAQIs.......
the problems in the their community won't be 'solved' by
government intervention...
but rather will come from within the community itself. By making changes themselves.
linduhKKK as the expert on what blacks need to do ????? linduhKKK concerned about blacks??!!!!
