Hillary Clinton's campaign offering teen baby-sitters for Iowa caucusgoers

Hillary Clinton reaches out to backers Tuesday at rally at Sioux City Art Center in Iowa.

Meet Hillary Clinton's secret weapon in Iowa: baby-sitters.

In Thursday's caucuses, it all comes down to getting out the vote. And Clinton is going to the extremes, even lining up baby-sitters and day care centers for caucus-going moms.

She is locked in a tight race with Democratic rivals Barack Obama and John Edwards. Securing every extra vote in a race in which fewer than 50,000 people may show up will be the difference between a momentum-building win or a humbling defeat.

The Clinton campaign is opening day care centers across the state, including three in Des Moines, and has enlisted a legion of teenage girls to render their tyke-watching services.

"I really want to see Hillary Clinton elected, but I'm too young to caucus, so I'll baby-sit for someone else so they can," said Molly McGuire, a 14-year-old from Des Moines.

She'll watch a 2-year-old and a 6-month-old, free of charge.

Old Iowa political pros say the top three Democrats have excellent organizations, but Edwards' voters are the most likely to show up. That leaves Clinton and Obama pulling out all the stops to turn out the newcomers.

Obama Tuesday launched an army of about 500 volunteers in Des Moines.

"The only thing that counts is whether over the next 72 hours you're willing to work for this and make the phone calls, and knock on the doors and grab your friends, and grab your neighbors and say, 'It is time for us to deliver on change,'" he declared.

"It's going to come down to who gets their supporters out, and I'll put my money on my organization," Obama said later as he and Clinton campaigned across Iowa.

Obama is even using caravans of buses to bring Chicago-area students back to their Iowa colleges from winter break in time to caucus.

Saw an interview with an Iowa Mom holding a baby. She was asked if she planned on attending the caucus. She answered that she wasn't sure, it was her bowling night. I had to laugh out loud. I remember how important a little R&R is on Mom's night out to maintain one's sanity. Edited to add, I don't know if the woman is a democrat or republican. Obviously, she isn't passionate about a candidate. Although well-intended, I doubt if the free babysitting will be heavily utilized. I used a single drop-in babysitting service after I carefully spent considerable time checking them out. I would never have dropped my kid off to a temporary group of uncertified teenagers. My mother probably would have, but times have changed.

Bear, you don't like me and I don't like you but I gotta hand it to ya...at least you care about something that isn't all about YOU. You care about what's happening in America (even if it's mostly "I hate Hilary"and I never learned one single personal thing about you. Thank you.

Mingo, and in that regard we must give Bear an "A" for perseverance.

To continue posting such topics on a dead board with cancelled access and threads disappearing from view most posters would require a salary.

And you can tell it's slow when people post cheese log recipes , their children's private lives and every post is about them....again, I have a hesitant respect for Bear who has kindly refrained from doing that.

AND he has a point:

""Why not just stand in front of the polling booths and pass out cash.""

Of course, poor bear thinks only Hillary is doing this but HEY, he tried!!!!

Sorry Mingo but I think the original intent of the RT was that one COULD post cheese log recipes, children's private lives etc. We are, for the most part, eBay sellers trying to unwind while working - much as one would chat with a co-worker at the water fountain or in the break room at work.

Somehow the RT became very politics-centered over the past several years - I don't think some of the frequent posters even sold on eBay!

Many of us don't really enjoy reading political posts (especially when they are of the "cut and paste" and personal attack variety) and dont give a rat's behind whether you are a liberal or conservative and why.

Surely there are boards on Yahoo with deeper and more astute political topics for those who are truly interested in living and breathing that sort of thing. The RT never really has been a place for deep thinking. In fact I used to read it for entertainment before going to bed because it was so outrageously shallow, petty and out and out mean.

I am not in favor of censorship so post whatever topics you like but please spare us snide comments about ours.

Oh, so you LIKE "shallow , petty, and out and out mean"!

Or some other place was just too boring???

Well, guess what, I thought it was fun, and funny, too! You sure take things seriously....lighten up...life's better then!

"""I am not in favor of censorship so post whatever topics you like but please spare us snide comments about ours."""

I'm really not in favor of censorship which is why I don't ask anyone to spare anything.

""""The RT never really has been a place for deep thinking. In fact I used to read it for entertainment before going to bed because it was so outrageously shallow, petty and out and out mean."""

""Deep thinking" ....like in another place, """OH, the Sky is Falling, I got a Neg", OH, What do I do,I didn't get Paid"! Wah WAh WAh.

And , it's amazing but selective reading of posts is alive and well in the other place.

I, and another poster, were insulted for posting opinions and, gee, SOME, completely ignored that.

NOW for the OxyMoron:

""Surely there are boards on Yahoo with deeper and more astute political topics for those who are truly interested in living and breathing that sort of thing. So YOU can INSULT but I can't be SNIDE....gotcha!

LOL!!!!!

pixia, what would you like explained? Or are you here just to insult other posters?

See, the quotation marks are what someone else posted...it's a quote. Then there's my answers to their post ...these have no quotation marks because I'm not quoting myself....does that help?

Good points, Neglus.

This board was most interesting when political and fun, informative topics were equally popular.

And it was especially enjoyable when the political topics were not dominated by ignorant and obnoxious posters whose only reason to be was mudslinging and personal attack.

The few who enjoy that kind of disruption drive away posters who might otherwise make a significant contribution to this board.

Yes, Hwahwa, Obama won the caucus but let's not "live and breathe" politics as it only has to do with the future of the United States, the welfare of future generations, the economy, what wars we will or won't be in, the environment, our health care, our freedoms and liberty.

You can tell when the Vendio EO forum is slow - posters who are dying to pick a fight will post on RT even though they have no knowledge or understanding of what's posted or why, make ASSumptions about other posters' background, history or their experience on ebay (what's THAT got to do with anything?), nor answer questions.

Bill Clinton lost the Iowa caucus .
Let's hope this isn't a pattern and Obama makes it all the way....wished it was Edwards but an Obama/Edwards ticket is nice!

Does anyone else feel like these "primaries" for the Presidential candidates should all be held on the same day. I don't like the current system in which some states vote ahead of others. I think the outcome in these states influence voters in states where the elections are held later.

Right, Logansdad! It's really crazy to influence the nomination of a presidential candidate based on the winner of one unrepresentative state like Iowa...and especially when you consider the fact that only a few percentage points determine the leader.

Wouldn't bet on it, the foul stench from what is the left of the RT is on par with a rotting corpse. All of you that have been successful in getting Classic, Linda and Rev banned have dealt the boards own death notice.

THEMSELVES!

forced them to post what they did. They CHOSE to do it.

Bear, was that your parting shot, or will you be sticking around to smell the stench a little more?

I could hold a conversation with Classic, as you and I have done from time to time. Too bad he's gone as far as I'm concerned. Linda was a loony and was bound to burst into flame eventually, anybody could see that regardless whether you agreed with her or not and as for Colin, just a mean spirited, bigoted blowhard who got what he had coming.

I, for one have real problems with Hillary and am glad someone else won Iowa. I've been trying to pinpoint my aversion to her and decided it is my old age and long memory. Whitewater was never right. Vince Foster's death, whether suicide or otherwise, was always more closely linked with Hillary than Bill. I am getting a clear message of entitlement from her campaign. It is her time, she deserves the nomination because she has paid her dues. Excuse me, there are many other loyal democrats who have paid their dues but do not expect that the presidential nomination falls into their laps.
