Now that we're safe in the RT and can post without fear of sending someone off the deep end, I wonder how many people here buy things from QVC?

When we moved to the mountains, with extremely limited shopping, I discovered QVC on tv and have bought lots and lots of things from them--not just clothes, but jewelry, household products, cookware, purses, gifts, etc. etc. So convenient.

I bought beautiful 18k gold hoop earrings for my sisters and sister-in-law years ago. Wonderful quality at a good price. I rarely watch QVC but haven't seen any more bargains like that one.

Omigosh, profe. Raining! More rain coming! Winds perhaps to 70 mph! and then. . . 10-12 inches of snow starting Sunday! All the creeks are running again! Husband has parked one of the cars out in the driveway for a good washing! Neighbors are stocking up on groceries! People who were going to have to go off the hill, to the flatlands, are relieved to have an excuse not to!

Such excitement. . . . How can we bear it?!

Pixi--this is too much of a coincidence. Two years ago I bought 18k gold hoop earrings for my daughter and daughter-in-law from QVC. Some of the Q's jewelry is over the top, for me, but I've gotten some wonderful sterling silver pieces for myself. Love RLM's designs.

Daughter-in-law is addicted to Dooney & Burke handbags (not at all interesting to me), so she got a big honkin' purple one (her favorite color) a year ago. Shopping in my jammies on the couch at midnight is my idea of a Real Mall.

We lost power for 2 hours around dinner time due to high winds. No computer, no TV, no heat, no cooking. As my kid said, I guess this is a time for bonding. Thankfully, a pizza joint was still open so we wiled away the hours munching on cheese-lovers pizza.

Speaking of weather...there are a lot of old trees in our area so when wind blows, the trees fall down and the power goes out, sometimes for several days. When we learned that you can't keep warm with only one fireplace we bought a generator. Can you imagine living in an old house heated by fireplaces with no lights, TV or Internet? Could "bonding" be fun in that environment?

And about shopping QVC...I'm not interested in jewlery and stuff like that but I buy books from Amazon. And I just got a good deal on walnuts which are now selling at the grocery for 9.99 a bag. By buying six bags from Amazon I saved several bucks.

There is some countdown show on E! featuring funny clips. They just showed a clip from QVC selling the facial flex (in case you're suffering from fat jaw). Hysterical!

Pixi--I bought the facial flex more than a year ago and haven't tried it once! I keep vowing to give it a try.

The FTC has charged QVC with making deceptive claims for several years...most recently for Cold-Eeze Zinc Lozenges which were advertised by QVC to prevent colds and reduce the risk of pneumonia

Other cases between FTC and QVC

So, it may be a good idea to be wary of "health products" advertised by QVC.

Roadsmith, as far as I know that product was not investigated by FTC. My comment doesn't mention the facial flex product or FTC in reference to that particular product. You may be confused because my response was posted after Pixiamom's comment and you probably assumed that it was in response to her comment but it wasn't.

Other funny youtube sales pitches on QVC....

Mike Rowe on QVC

The first of 18 you tube QVC sales pitches is a bag (katsak) for only 35.00 which Mike claims will give your cat "unbridled pleasure".
