My daughter and I went to the local high school last night to attend the DFL (democrat) caucus. It was an experience! I haven't attended one in I hate to say how long (let's just say Humphrey was the nominee that year). My memory of that time was that a lot of time was spent discussing the party platform (sales tax on tampons was a burning issue) and we had to wait to the very end to pick our presidential choices. Things have changed in the past 30 years!

Last night the school was full to overflowing. We were told to match our precinct up with the various school rooms and go to the appropriate place. Once there, we signed in with our names and addresses and then were handed a small piece of cut-up notebook paper. They said they ran out of official ballots early in the evening (this was 15 mins after start time so you have to wonder how early was early?). The names of the candidates were on the black board - we were told to write our choice on one side of the paper and our names on the back and then hand the paper to the man in the maroon sweater. So much for anonymity! No one even checked our ids!!! There was no room to sit, so we voted and left. I really have to wonder if a primary wouldn't be a better way to do this after all.

LOL. Wonder why they didn't just ask for a show of hands.
