Any news? I have tried everything. I went back to my old beat up computer with xp but that computer is about toast.
Should I just throw this new one away and buy a new one with xp?
I have tried everything that I have read on here.
What is the latest?
SMP keeps just fading out. going gray. losing info everytime I try it.

What "news"? Latest what?
Vista runs just fine if you have the drivers. It will be almost impossible to find a laptop with XP, and hard to find a desktop unless you have one built.

I have no problem with Vista. I don't find it much different than Mellinium or other Windows. It was difficult at first because everything is hidden in it's only little area, you just had to find the area.

Micro Center sells an occassional refurbished computer with XP Pro installed. I have a friend who bought one and is very happy with it. I don't know how reliable the refurbished machines are but it's an option that you may want to investigate.

Dell is still selling new desktop computers with XP on them.
Personally I hate vista. It is slower than XP and there is the compatibility issue with some programs.
Microsoft did customers a disservice when they pushed out Vista.

The problem is that with my two "new machines" both vista, SMP blanks out 4 to 5 times everytime I try to post.
We, therefore, have these two "new" computers that are useless to us.
I read on this board a while back that the solution was to run as an administrator. but this is not a very good solution.
We have tweaked, downloaded patches, ot rid of some pre-packaged virus stuff (that helped the most) and now the computer runs fairly well with all programs EXCEPT SMP. Still blanks out when we upload at least once and sometimes several times before a successful upload.
Does anyone else have this problem?
We did not order vista, it came with the dells and we were one of the first

What is SMP?
What do you mean "blanks out"?
Do you have UAC turned on?
What shows on the Windows Defender panel?
Is Windows Firewall turned on or off?
Are you using any firewall/virus programs?
Do you have a router? Is it a std router or a security appliance?
