"Time to go to bed, David". "What would you do if I just stayed on the couch and refused to move?" "I'd see it as a great opportunity to have another responsible sex discussion." "Goodnight, "Mom." "Goodnight, David."

I was reading about Ed McMahon and his mortgage problem.
We are all living longer now and how can we be sure money does not run out?
a 4.5 millions dollar mortgage and a $300,000 equity line of credit on his house and he is 85 years old.
And this guy works hard all his life.

I doubt that Ed's problem has much to do with his age per se. Just because he worked hard and got famous and made a lot of money doesn't mean he was smart in his investments and the way he handled all that money. For all any of us know he's a spendthrift who's foolishly blown his fortune and deserves to be broke.

You make me laugh!thats funny!
but he said the toxic mold case he won 7.5 million ,he spent it all on 9 lawyers and regutting the house,so he did not make any money.
He blamed it on divorce and of course not keeping his eyes on the ball.
Looks like someone is going to buy his house, could be Letterman doing a good deed.

Prof,
people are living longer now,you figure a person retires at 65 and live 20 more years, anything can happen, one major illness can wipe out entire savings.
Dont forget back then 12 % interest rate on jumbo CD ,you take for granted and now how much are they paying for your 100,000 ?
Of course they always come out and say inflation is under control excluding food and energy !
What do we eat? sand?
?how do we travel?
two shoes pony??

It's hard to believe that someone who held real estate investments worth over 200 million in the 90's needs 644,000 now to avoid foreclosure. Someone will probably bail McMahon out before he has to move to tent city.

However! I don't have sympathy for people who spend what they have, charge what they don't have, and don't handle their money responsibly. I know many people who are comfortably well off who are careful with their money, buying few "wants" and all their needs. Count us in that group.

And I don't doubt that Ed McMahon had some wives who spent a LOT of money. He (like many other famous men) tended to go for the "girls," and there are lots of golddiggers in Hollywood.

Careful...don't just blame the wives.

When children of the wealthy graduate from college they need a little financial assistance too in order to live in the manner to which they have become accustomed. That includes multi-million dollar homes and other perks that privileged children and grandchildren enjoy.

"He tended to go for the girls".

Isn't that typical regardless of financial status? I suppose that lack of funds may be limiting in that regard for some men. So they remain with one "girl" forever.

He knows a lot of people and get along well with most people,I am sure some wealthy friends/fans of his will bail him out.
There are already words that someone may buy his house,he is not asking a lot of money, only 6 million dollars.
