I'm starting to take exception to the loooong copy and paste articles posted here. Although I have been guilty of posting shorter copy + paste articles, I am concerned about the copyright issues, has due credit been given the author + publisher and do you have permission to publish the work, as well as the scrolling issues of those not wishing the read the article in its entirety. Why not put some thought into it, provide an original synopsis and provide a link instead?

Hey, Pixi, I guess I'm guilty (just posted another one). I cannot figure out how to make a tiny url (used to know how!). Adele

[url} * paste web address here (lose the asterisk)

Adele, I enjoy reading your posts but people write or pay for articles that will drive folks to their website. Linking to them helps them accomplish that goal. Copying + pasting their copyrighted content is ummm stealing...

Edited to add: for shorter links you can go to tinyurl.com, but many folks like to see the original link they are clicking,

Well, if you don't want copy and paste (which does not bother me), then I would like to see a link. It seems like some of these are from newspapers, magazines, etc... and these are meant to be read.

Roadsmith, your expetise in selecting good articles is much appreciated and I hope that you will continue to do so.

I've been told that our use of copyrighted articles here is considered "fair use". By posting an article here we are not making a profit or significantly affecting the value of an article.

Pixiamom's illustration is not a "short link".

A "short link" is useful because sometimes a url is so long that it causes the page to expand sideways making the entire page difficult to read.

Begin a short link with [url=
then copy paste the url followed by a bracket]
After that bracket write the title of the article followed by
(Be sure that the brackets are facing in the direction illustrated.

An example...I used an asterisk at the beginning of the example so that it would not work. Remove the asterisk and the link will work.

[*url=http://progressiveaccountability.org/2008/09/24/keating/]Problems From Deregulation

Then the short link will display.

Problems From Deregulation

Pixiamom, what do you mean by... "scrolling issues of those not wishing the read the article in its entirety."?

Do you find it difficult to scroll? If so, you may need to find another interest.

BTW, Pixiamom...if you would like to see the original link you may right click the short link and click properties. That will display the entire link.

I like seeing the posted articles and links and can choose for myself whether I wish to read them or not, whether Roadsmith, Bear or anyone else posts them.

There are a lot of annoying people out there who like to whine and complain about others for no reason. Many of these people are passive aggressive sorts or they are just people who like to play the victim to everyone else's "greener grass".

Kiara, I agree. It's much more convenient in my opinion to see the entire article. And I believe that more people will read the posted article.

Excellent information and helpful suggestions in that link, Kiara!

BTW.....I corrected my description above. I used an asterisk at the beginning of the example link so that it would not work. If the asterisk is removed, the short link will work.

Helen, I forgot to take out the asterisk so edited to remove it. But Wikihow didn't like me naming their url 'People Who Complain' so when the link was clicked I got a message that they didn't have that article. I'll try it again.

They all work for me, Kiara.

They must know that you wrote the book on How to Deal with People Who Always Complain.

That's strange that they work for you and not for me, Helen. I cleared all my cookies and still get the same message when I post the link that way.

Write the Deal with People Who Always Complain/ article

I couldn't possibly write a better one than the one I posted.

Edited to add that about 16 people share authorship to that article.

Loved the article - it applies to many in my own family.

Kiara, the short link should work with any word or words or letters. For example, your link will work with only an X.

X

or with a word such as "here"

here

Or with the phrase, "Hot to Deal With Whiners"

How to Deal With Whiners

Just think, it took 16 people to write an article that you could write better in less than 15 minutes.
