Now we learn that Joe Six-Pack is a plumber that makes >$200,000/year...
Edited to add: Profe, what do you think about vets being sent in to teach without certification proposed by McCain to improve education? Huh?
How is Palin an authority on autism? Her baby has Downs Syndrome?

Those same things left me wondering. If plumbers make more than $200,000, then I think they should retrain the vets as plumbers! There is no shortage of teachers.

Yeah, McCain kept referring (well, twice at least) to Palin's knowing about autism. That's the first I've heard. The baby has Down Syndrome, right? Does McCain know something we don't know?
Edited to change to Down Syndrome (not Downs or Down's as I've seen and heard before!).

It's just a rehash of the old conservative suggestions that business executives should be sent in to run schools as businesses. A degree in education is certainly no guarantee that a person who holds one will be a good teacher, but there has to be a firm grounding in pedagogical philosophy, theory and practice. It's not only feel good nonsense, it would require changes in every state's legal requirements for who can be in a classroom and for that reason alone it'll never happen.

Perhaps McCain thinks certain vets will be able to instill in children how to become future soldiers for all the wars that will be waged.

Road,
"In 1975, the United States National Institutes of Health convened a conference to standardize the nomenclature of malformations. They recommended eliminating the possessive form: "The possessive use of an eponym should be discontinued, since the author neither had nor owned the disorder."[59] Although both the possessive and non-possessive forms are used in the general population, Down syndrome is the accepted term among professionals in the USA, Canada and other countries; Down's syndrome is still used in the United Kingdom and other areas." from wikipedia
A few years ago I read that the move was to change the term to "Trisomy 21" because of some discomfort with the history of Down. Apparently that movement never took off.

My best friend has a 20 year old daughter with autism. She probably ate McCain's speech up. What does that mean that Palin knows much about autism? Having a 6 month old with Down Syndrome is by far different and well quite frankly, she hasn't had enough experience with Down either.

Joe TP was on GMA this am. He was very articulate (bet he is not one of those plumbers with tool belt around waist and butt crack showing). He doesn't make 250,000 YET but doesn't think he should have to pay extra taxes when/if he does. He did not say who he was voting for and said that everyone should make own decision.

There's quite a bit of chatter this morning online about whether or not Joe was a plant intended to set Obama up.

I hadn't heard the chatter but Joe (guess his real name is Sam - Joe is middle name) said something about in his GMA interview about not hearing from campaigns since he was asked to appear .... didn't say WHOSE campaign. Hmmm

I heard a report once that said Palin's sibling (I think it was a sister) had a special needs child - perhaps that child has autism.

Oh, No! Joe the Plumber is not a licensed plumber.
According to the Washington Post "Updated 3:20 p.m.
By Robert Barnes
Joe the Plumber is not exactly a plumber, he's "not even close" to making the kind of money that would result in higher taxes from Democrat Barack Obama's proposals and has such an aversion to taxes that a lien was filed against him by the state of Ohio."
Joe works for a small plumbing company, doing residential work which does not require a license.

Wow! Joe is a piece of work alright. He is the very person Obama's plan would help and at $40,000/year a long way off from the $250,000 threshold. Do you think he was PAID to have his talk with Obama and if so, by whom?

Well "Joe the plumber" sure turned the tables on Obama the socialist. Made him admit to his socialist agenda to "redistribute the wealth" of those who WORK to those slackers living on welfare.

PS. Joe doesnt need a license to work as a plumber since he works for a company that holds a plumbers license.

Here's the Joe the Plumber" story in a nutshell:
From MSNBC site:
There’s a lot I’ve got to learn’
Legally speaking, Wurzelbacher isn’t a plumber, because he isn’t licensed by Toledo, Lucas County or the state of Ohio. A representative of the Toledo Building Inspection Division said a plumber must be registered with the state and only then can apply for a city plumbing contractor’s license.
Wurzelbacher said he worked under the license held by his boss, Al Newell of Newell Plumbing and Heating Co. of Toledo. Newell is a licensed plumbing contractor in Toledo, records show. But anyone working under Newell should have a journeyman’s plumbing license or an apprenticeship license, officials said.
Video
‘Flash in the pan’
Oct. 16: Joe Wurzelbacher tells reporters he wishes the candidates had talked more about the issues — and less about him.
MSNBC
Building Inspection officials said Newell was responsible for making sure that anyone working under him was licensed. The Toledo Plumbing Board of Control may consider sanctions against Wurzelbacher or Newell, officials told NBC affiliate WNWO of Toledo.
“There’s a lot I’ve got to learn” about the plumbing business, Wurzelbacher said Thursday.
Wurzelbacher also acknowledged that he had no specific plans for buying Newell’s business, saying he and Newell had simply talked about the idea from time to time. He might have difficulty making the purchase: Court records from his divorce show that Wurzelbacher made $40,000 in 2006.
Even if he did buy Newell Plumbing and Heating, Obama’s tax plan wouldn’t affect him. While Wurzelbacher told Obama that he would be taxed at a higher rate because the company grossed more than $250,000 a year, Ohio business records show the company’s estimated total annual revenue as only $100,000. Actual taxable income would be even less than that.
In any event, Obama’s tax plan specifies that the higher rate would apply only to income above the $250,000 threshold. Assuming Wurzelbacher’s income as owner somehow hit $280,000 — the top end of his supposition of the company’s revenue — only the extra $30,000 would be taxed at a higher rate."
Besides owing back taxes, Mr. Joe the Plumber is anti Social Security.

And Samuel J Wurzelbacher may or may not be a close relative (grandson?) of Charles Keating (McCain's pal). Also, he may or may not be related to Todd Palin's racing buddy from Wasilla, Doug Wurzelbacher. Seems that Joe lived in Alaska in 1993 at any rate.
It will be interesting to see the answers to those possibilities!
Hmm - and a wife beater?

Wow. Looks like good ol' Joe is nothing more than a plant put in place by a desperate man. PATHETIC!
Cheryl
Whitman said she and McCain share a philosophy of scaling back the role of government. a point of view partly shaped by her EBay experience. "The EBay model is very Republican in its essence -- it's about making a small number of rules and getting out of the way while not overtaxing the community," she said.

The guy isn't Joe, the guy isn't a plumber, isn't undecided and the guy has no hope of ever earning $250,000/year or faring better under McCain than Obama. But I don't think the guy is related to Keating or anyone else that really matters. It appears another hoaxster named Eisenstadt may have started this rumor.
