God Bless South Carolina Rep. Joe Wilson (R-SC).

During the President's speech he was the only one with the courage to call out "You Lie"

"Obama heckled by GOP during speech to Congress"

John McCain was on Larry King and when asked about Wilson's comment he said it was very disrepectful, out of place and that he should apologize immediately to the President.

McCain also agreed with the president that there is no provision to provide insurance to illegals.

There has been a law on the books for many years which states that no one can be turned away from emergency treatment for any reason-- due to inability to pay, lack of insurance, undocumented status, etc. This has nothing to do with the health care bill being discussed.

South Carolina Rep. Joe Wilson is Un-American for his disrespect toward President Obama. He is just a bully and a liar himself since he was totally wrong when he called Obama a liar.

South Carolina Rep. Joe Wilson is still spreading lies. This is the only thing the Republicans have been good at since 2004 - spreading lies and mistruths. It is no wonder people like vintageu support his actions.

For those who care about facts, the nonpartisan PolitiFact.com and FactCheck.org, both examined the claims that the Democratic proposals provide coverage for illegal immigrants and found the claims to be false.

MSNBC's Keith Olbermann shed additional light on 15-minute famer Wilson. He's been writing op-eds like this one to promote the myth of "death panels" that Sarah Palin made famous. (Wrong again, Congressman. End-of-life counseling was a great and popular idea, even with Palin, before it became politically expedient for Republicans to oppose it.)

Also, the Washington Independent turned up this nugget from Americans for Legal Immigration, a group that wants immediate deportation of illegals and backed Wilson's election. Maybe this helps to explain why Wilson erupted before his brain was engaged at Obama's mere mention of illegal immigrants.

logansdad should check the facts himself as he is incorrect. logansdad should look beyond what the president eloquently stated as fact, and which was not entirely true.

The president said "There are also those who claim that our reform effort will insure illegal immigrants. This, too, is false – the reforms I'm proposing would not apply to those who are here illegally."

Which is written in H.R. 3200. Section 246 of H.R. 3200 says, "Nothing in this subtitle shall allow Federal payments for affordability credits on behalf of individuals who are not lawfully present in the United States."

Factcheck.org is correct in that by the wording of the H.R. 3200 illegal immigrants shall not receive federal monies for health care.

Sounds great. How would that provision be enforced?

Rep. Nathan Deal (R-GA) recently introduced an Amendment to H.R. 3200 which would have provided a means to verify citizenship and enforced Section 246 of H.R. 3200.

As Rep Deal wrote "While the goal of this bill is to ensure that all Americans are able to access affordable health care services, the bill is vaguely written and would allow millions of illegal aliens to benefit from the taxpayer-funded program. Problems with the bill include:

Section 242 of the bill prohibits "undocumented aliens" from receiving health care, but does not prescribe a method for preventing illegal aliens from receiving health care.

Section 1702 of the bill requires that "the State shall accept without further determination the enrollment under [the Medicaid program] of an individual determined by the Commissioner to be a non-traditional Medicaid eligible individual." However, the bill does not require the government to apply the existing citizenship and identity verification requirements that exist in the current Medicare statute.

Section 1714 states, "in determining eligibility for services under this subsection, the State may consider only the income of the applicant or recipient." This means that for certain non-essential services, the State can disregard an individual's immigration status and look only at the individual's income."

The Deal Amendment was presented for a committee vote on July 30, 2009. The Democratic led Committee voted against the Deal Amendment that would Prevent Health Care Benefits to Illegal Aliens. All Republicans and five Democrats voted for it, but 29 Democrats voted against it, killing the amendment.

Here was an opportunity for Democrats to show how sincere they are regarding enforcing Section 246 of H.R. 3200. They just could not do so.

When Rep Wilson (R-SC) cried out "Its a lie" he was just stating what many in America already believed.

Is this just another instance of wink-wink we say we are against it, but will look the other way, when we must enforce it.

Joe Wilson is a proud member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, an organization with avowed racist and secessionist beliefs. He's a racist, plain and simple. The Republican party is becoming a party of white male southerners. His comment may have directed towards an immigration issue, but it's really about his and others' inability to accept a black man as president.

The only way to absolutely guarantee that undocumented aliens will not receive health coverage is to issue mandatory National ID cards to everyone. Is this what Republicans want? I thought they were against Big Government. This is all a load of crapola.

The President is a black man. Get over it!

No need to bring race into a discussion. That was uncalled for.

Why would I need to check my facts when I posted what was on factcheck.org - which you agree was right. It sounds like you are the one that has issues and can't read what has been written.

Vintageu loves to copy and paste. Can you actually think for yourself or do you just parrot every talking point from Faux News and Rush Limbaugh.

You sound like another paranoid woman that used to be on this board. Take a deep breath and actually read what is in these bills for a change. There is not one finaly health care plan that is being voted on at this time. There are 3 or 4 different versions of health care plans out there. None of which is ready to be voted upon. If you want to continue running around like chicken little go ahead.

Sorry fruscia, but I have every reason to believe that for many people, Rep. Wilson included, race is THE issue. I believe a frank discussion of it is more than called for.

logansdad, I just have no idea where to begin with you. Are you that full of hatred against anyone that might point out a contrary position?

Perhaps it is because you only believe what you see on the TV programs or read in the newspaper written by the columnists that make you comfortable.

Factcheck is correct on the surface. The problem was that there were no enforcement provisions in the current bills.

Read this latest news article from the AP. Because of the Wilson fiasco, there will now be movement to curtail illegal immigration use in the potential legislation.

"White House stiffens against illegal immigrants"

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090912/ap_on_go_co/us_health_care_overhaul

There is one problem with all of this. We all know or should know, that part of the increase in health care is that of emergency rooms being used as clinics by those who are here illegally. Hospitals cannot refuse to provide medical care to the undocumented immigrants. This would mean that a segment of our population would continue to place a drain on the financial resources of the health care system. This financial burden would have to then be factored into the cost of health care. Where is the savings?

Isn't it interesting that so many Conservatives ignore the financial benefit that insuring undocumented workers would entail? Could it possibly be the case that their racist, xenophobic and immoral attitudes block their thinking apparatus?

No but I think it is blocking yours.
You are the one bringing up the race card. This is twice now. Why would you think Joe Wilson was, he was protesting what the President said not what his ethnic background is. And my oh my, he was just saying what many people are thinking. The President is not God.

Pelosi and her gang will not leave it alone until something is done with Mr. Wilson. I think Pelosi thinks she is president the way she acts and demands.

Actually fruscia, helen is one of two bringing up race. I started it and will continue it.
It's my belief that there is a racial component to this extreme lack of respect for the president. Look at the so called tea parties. These people aren't focused on any issues, they are focused on Obama the man. They love to throw around hot button words like 'socialism' but can rarely ariticulate exactly what it is they're upset about. That appears to be widely true of the Republican leadership as well. If Obama's for it, they're against it. I have long said that all this rancor isn't due so much to health care reform as it is to bringing the president down, no matter the cost.
Mr. Wilson is a proud member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans. This organization has moved from being a bunch of quaint history buffs and reinactors to a vocally racist and separatist group. Coincidence? Maybe. I choose to believe otherwise. To make the statement "You Lie" is to make the issue personal. It demonstrates that for Mr. Wilson the issue is Obama, not healthcare. Wilson should be censured in the House of Representatives at the very least. At best, he should go home and open up a confederate flag store.

Exactly!

Are you still counting, fruscia?

BTW...you may feel that a topic is "uncalled for" but if you read carefully you may find that you are wrong...especially when it's first mentioned by Profe.

Make that 3 posters. I agree with Profe and Helen and have made several posts to that effect. Wilson's behavior, as well as that of the birthers, the town hall screamers and tea party protesters all go way past disagreeing with policy. Their goal appears to be to bring down President Obama. They do not let facts get in the way.

In addition to his desire for the south to rise again, Rep. Wilson has received contributions from several pharmaceutical companies, which does nothing for his objectivity or credibility. Even many of his saner Republican colleagues want to see him apologize before Congress for his outrageous performance.
