The recent rash of rudeness from Joe Wilson, Serena Williams, Kanye West, etc. has me wondering where in the world has common courtesy and civility gone? What is to blame, bad parenting or the internet? Both? I'm leaning towards the internet....the egocentricity of social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook just astounds me.
Let's see if I can remember how to make a working link:

Yes I think that is one of the reasons. The internet has woken up a sleeping giant and has given the world a stage to act on. There is nothing hidden anymore like the older days when TV just gave the news at 4, 6 & 10 with no commentary. Also include that with the radio. Now people have found outlets to voice an opinion there because there is so many more stations.. Is that good or bad I don't think so. We are moving into an era where there is nothing hidden. People are not afraid to voice their opinion as it should be and now we find a world of discontent that was hidden in the past.
Saying it is Bad Parenting I don't think so. It is society that now dictates the way people act. There is no policing.

it's called class, and that's something Joe Wilson, Serena Williams and Kanye West do not have.
I don't think there are less people with class, just that more people without it are in positions of having their voice heard these days due to the availability of media.
in the past some moron like Wilson would get away with stuff like that and nobody other than those in his office would have known any better - today you can't hide your ignorance as easily especially if you have a problem keeping your big mouth shut.

Fruscia, I strongly disagree. Improved communication throughout the world provided by the internet should not be censored or as you suggest "policed". The ability to freely exchange ideas and opinions, however controversial, should be cherished!

IMO, it is the parenting which has the most influence on this type of behavior. In our efforts to make sure our children do not have low self-esteen, we have over-corrected. I often compliment for the hard work my kid put in to get an A on his test. I also make a point of saying how proud I am when they show empathy or help someone. And...always let them know they are loved. Unfortunately, in this age of instant celebrity for no particular talent, other than being rude, being willing to make a fool of yourself on some reality show or having a scandalous picture of yourself on Face Book, it is getting more and more difficult to teach the kids what is really important.

Learned behavior is also the crux of Conservative ideology. They seem to be especially lacking in the ability to empathize or show compassion.
I wonder if they shared their toys when they were in the sandbox.

They were always bullies who never played or had any fun but when the going got rough they always grabbed all the toys and ran home crying and tattling.

"Just as she cherishes Joe Wilson"
With Joe Wilson's inappropriate remark to President Obama during a joint session of Congress, he made an ass of himself. But his outburst served to rally Democrats to unite and energize Democratic activists and their rank and file.
But do I cherish him? Just as much as I cherish you sweetheart.

I can't see any relevance between the two cases. One was an outrageous personal attack while the other was simply a personal indiscretion.

Personal indiscretion??
if someone exposes himself in front of you and your daughter thats personal indiscretion ? If someone makes lewd gesture at you and your daughter ,thats personal indiscretion?
A Japanese soldier entered a Chinese household during the Rape of Nanking, and pissed into a bowl of porridge the farmer and his wife were about to share at dinner table, thats personal indiscretion?
Excuse me,I am about to rob and set fire to my neighbor house,it is my personal indiscretion!

Now this is true narcissism. Like God needs someone to stick up for Him?
And what about when the wind just blew her top open? STILL the victim!
What a poor loser! And the ending with the phony tears where she's convinced God has a BIGGER crown for her?
They're probably going to prime her for politics and perhaps the next leader but to me this is like a comedy skit.

She's Bachman and Palin rolled up in a better looking package than either one. Perfect. The bubbas will love her, especially since they can look at her near nekkid at 17.
Did anyone see Olbermann's WTF moment "St. Carrie of La Jolla"? Can't find a link to it right now but it was great. Her brother's a great catch too. Raise your hand if you'd let your daughter date him.......

That sure wasn't a nice article about Olbermeier. Many things in their I certainly agree with.
The best thing he can do is keep his mouth shut.
Read the comments of that article. Many that are written are what I think of him.
He acts like a 2 year old.

Improved communication through the world, cherished like when predatators are in web sites trying to pick up young boys or girls.
Or Porno web sites or dating websites. Even My space or face book aren't safe.
Then according to you what was wrong with what Joe Wilson said. And don't give me that he was in congress. Have you ever watched a session?
Lots of noise, talking, clapping etc. So what the President was speaking. How many Health Bills is there out there and most of the stuff in their is unattainable.
If President Obama accepted his apology then they should just move on. Just because Nancy Pelosi said they should do something. Since when does she make the rules.

Umm, she's Speaker of the House of Representatives. Third in succession to the presidency. She gets to have some say-so.

So what the President was speaking.
Wow, you're kidding, right? Talk about disrespecting the office, if not only the man. The highest political office in the US, the most powerful position in the world (as we Americans like to believe), and you say so what if he was speaking, so what if the President of the Unites States was heckled while speaking to Congress and the entire nation?
Wow.
