What a hell on earth! My heart goes out to all the poor Haitian survivors, most of whom are illiterate, living in sub-standard housing on less than $2 per day while being exploited and ignored until a natural disaster shines a light on their pitiful plight.
Will the money raised be spent on disaster relief, earthquake resistant housing, and education or will it be used to pad the pockets of corrupt politicians?

I'm heartsick that help is on the way, but delayed by the gridlock at the airport. My 14 year old's question, which I can't answer is, why don't our planes/helicopters land in the Dominican Republic and parachute personnel/drop medical supplies via lines down in Haiti for immediate short-term relief?

I've been watching CNN a lot with Anderson Cooper. That is just what they are doing and also landing anywhere there is a clearing. The road to the dock is destroyed and they can't unload supplies from the ships anchored nearby. There will be chaos when they start handing food and water out. It may be too late to rescue anyone under those crushed buildings. Those that got out desperately need medical care as people are dying without it. Their gov't isn't doing anything to help their own people. Duvalier took millions and left the country years ago and they have been destitute ever since. People are camped out along side dead bodies and now they are picking them up with bulldozers and dumping them in trucks to be taken away. No records of who they are or anything. The people are even opening up crypts in graveyards and stuffing more bodies in where there is room.
There has been a great outpouring of aid from countries all over the world. Its just getting it to where it is needed.

They are now looting ,so how safe is it to parachute into Haiti?
Parachute is dangerous, sometimes it wont open.
Duvalier is long gone, cant blame it on him!

I suppose you've all seen Pat Robertson's take on the tragedy? God's retribution for Haiti's pact with the devil years ago (centuries ago?). Yuk.
